Well, he does have Ray Allen, Paul Pierce, and Kevin Garnett on his team...so, that helps.

I love watching Rondo but his shot is awful, probably historically awful amongst guards. Seriously, can someont think of a guard, any guard, that Rondo would beat in a wide open long range shooting contest.

He'd have no chance against Ariza, McGrady, and Alston.

    Exactly,

Bad mechanics/ form. lack of work ethic/ practice. and lack of confidence
is probably why he's so terrible not only from the free throw line but as a shooter in general.

If big hands automatically makes Rondo miss free throws, than Yao Ming should be shooting 40% at the line.

You'd have a good shooting percentage if you took 62% of your shots within 3 feet.

The big hand excuse was invented by Shaq and his supporters. The fact is, some people just don't have good touch. And yes, practice too.

Rondo has a strangely proportioned body. Extremely long arms and huge hands for his height.

Could that have an effect on his shooting stroke? Do players with proportionately longer arms tend to shoot the ball worse?

shaq said his shooting problem was a wrist injury not big hands.

Keep in mind most of his field goals are lay-ups.

Rondo is a much better play-maker and light years ahead in defense. If I want to build a championship team, I'd take Rondo over Monta easily. And I am not saying this because I attended UK.

Rondo isnt a great shooter anywhere on the court much less at his free throws. He plays similar to Kyle Lowry, and forces it in the paint.

I'm sure it doesn't help. Can we use Ariza's long arms as his excuse?

You're kind of forgetting who Rondo plays with.

T-mac is not a poor shooter. He's has a career FG% of 44%. Not bad for a shooting guard. This is why you don't look at how good a shooter someone is because of one bad year.

Alston shot poorly because he was left open a lot because of double teams on Yao or McGrady. It's not like he's shooting pullups and fadeaways.

Ariza is a poor shooter because just look at who he's playing with right now.

Using MJ as a comparison is a bit unfair, but Michael had a very long wingspan and large hands. Didn't stop him from shooting 83% from the FT for his career.

It basically boils down to repetition and keep practicing at it. MJ wasn't that great of an outside shooter when he entered the NBA but as the years progressed he was deadly and that's because he worked at it.

There is direct corelation between a player's FT% and how big of a thug he thinks he is.

Look at the bottom tier of ft%:

    Andrei Kirilenko
    Birdman Anderson
    Jermaine Oneal
    Ron Artest
    JR Smith
    Kenyon Martin
    Rajon Rondo
    Shaq

They're all there in a group. See thugs cannot be seen working hard off the court trying to improve a silly thing like shooting FTs.
