not applicable...Im not even sure if the Summer League has such a restriction iirc, JL hasnt played two full seasons with the Rockets....did he? and also, for those saying we know what he does, playing could help his transition to Adelman's plans...they arent exactly the same as in past seasons, true? lastly, I dont think anyone *is* making a big deal out of this, just some random "wonder why this is" talk to kill the time in a long offseason. no reason to get defensive, or think this is anything other than it is.
well brooks is supposed to be the slightly taller, superior version of jl3. am i wrong? nothing against lucas but there doesn't seem like much room on the team for him. i do think he has a place in the nba on someone's roster though. if we do trade alston, and finally get rid of spanoulis, it's possible that lucas sticks around because of experience.
JL III got a 3 yr deal based on his Dad's relationship with CD. Period, this is another example of home town ball taking place. JLIII is good at spot up shooting, however, when you make him put it on the floor and make a decision ala Rafer and Head, that spells trouble. Bad passes/turnovers. His 3 yr deal is an example of bad money spent.
I think we are going to see a totally different team next year under adelman. Our small guards will thrive in the fast pace scheme we will run. Though we do have to many PG's Lucas may be on his way out and that's sad cause he worked hard for us.
I like Lucas, but i think Aaron Brooks is a younger, stronger, faster version of the same type of player (scoring PG). Something's got to give at the point gaurd position. Can anyone name a team that ever kept two sub-6-foot point gaurds on the roster? Or had basically 6 point gaurds on the payroll (if you count Span and Sura's contracts...)? My guess is that VSpan's contract gets packaged with Sura's contract and somne combonation of Lucas/Alston/Head for a power forward before the summer is over. Lucas wil play somewhere, his stock is still decently high, but i dont think that place is Houston.
Iverson and Boykins on the Nuggets? But Boykins did traded after a while, so JLIII will probably be traded..
Nick Van Exel(6'1") and Damon Stoudamire(5'10") played on Portland in the 2004-2005 season together. They both got minutes even though that was kind of a weird combination to have rotating at PG since they are very similar players.
It does seem to indicate that he is not in the plans to be traded. If the Rox were interested in trading him, it would make a ton of sense to feature him in Summer League again, to stir up more of that same frenzy of interest that was stirred last summer. By the way, everyone needs to shake themselves and remember how desperately we wanted the Rockets to keep JL3 after last summer's performance. How happy and relieved we were when we were able to 'land' him, after his becoming such a hot commodity. It would be very easy to gin up that same kind of frenzy as last season, but obviously the organization feels comfortable with him as a developing young player with some skills and potential. Anyway, if we DO eventually trade him, then it seems that it would be a mistake NOT to play him at least some this summer, because it would almost guarantee that we would not get full value for him.
These are the kind of deals that have hurt the Rockets. Remember the Charlie Ward three year deal? Wow! Yes he got injured, but he shouldn't have been signed in the first place. And what did happen to JL III's shooting? I have never been impressed with JL III, his summer league performance notwithstanding.
Cracker jacks have a high value these days, plus T-mac accidentally broke his decoder ring, I'm sure we could find a team willing to make that swing.
