It's not as much as immigration is it is population control and environment protection. I just think there are enough people. I know we can't control the world but I see land and trees bulldozed every day and the thought of millions more coming here and I want to protect whats left.

I think you are mixing up two problems. I agree the human population is a problem but the people who are coming here already exists. Trying to solve global population by shutting down immigration is essentially trying to stop a balloon from inflating by pushing down one part.

REIT's tax'em, and the people who hire'em solution would ensure they worked illegally, or that only the super skilled could get work.

It's a recipe for ghetto's or an underground economy.

We can at least try to save our immediate environment.

I know people are coming in now. I think what we have now is just about right. I'm ok with that. I'm scared to see it increase x10.

    Nobody will give us numbers.

    Yeah...and?

How much less would we spend on social programs were it not for the flood of illegals?

Sadly, the world is much different than it was a couple of centuries ago. The notions regarding immigration then simply are not a good idea today.

and how much more would we be spending on goods and services if they weren't?

heard a presentation by a klineburg (sp?) talking about this...his contention was that Houston, specifically, was avoiding the fate of Detroit and other American cities because of immigration, both legal and illegal. see, these people still need places to live...food to eat...etc. oh, and those social programs end up pumping more money into the private sector...into the pocketbooks of doctors, for example, who then go and spend money in our economy as well. so unlike Detroit, for example, where the city has emptied...our city is growing...and so are a lot of other cities in the south and southwest (coincidence??)...and they're better for it.

by the way...as a Catholic, you're really on the wrong side of this issue!!! :D The Catholic Church is arguing for amnesty, big time.

But that's the point though. Illegal immigration is an artificially created problem.

So in that case if we greatly opened our borders and made it legal for all of those people coming here to work would you be OK with that since then it wouldn't be illegal?

wouldnt everything listed by laws then be artificially created?

If there was no private property, there would be no trespassing.

    It's a basic instinct/need to protect one's territory.

illigal immigration is a real problem when its to the large degree that it is with this country.

How about exceptionally simplified and quicker procedures, and much larger immigration quotas? Are you concerned about the potential influx of criminals, etc, or is it that you just don't like the influx of spanish speaking people? Do you only like legal immigration as long as it is exceptionally difficult and limited to an extremely limited number?

i would favor a way to speed up the procedure and ease the bureaucratic entanglements. IF illegal immigration was controlled and we didnt already have 12 to 30 million people here illegally i would favor increased quotas - even though we already allow in 1 million immigrants a year, more than the rest of the world combined.

this is getting tiresome. yes, because i against illegal immigration i hate mexicans. you got me.

i am concerned about the fact that there are no criminal background checks done on 12-30 million people coming into this country. arent you? what country in the world besides the u.s. allows this?

i dont know about you, but to me 1 million people a year is not an "extremely limited number". again, the u.s. allows more people to immigrate here than the rest of the world's countries combined.
