Culturally, the US is heading into a quagmire. Ideally, immigrants will assimilate into the US culture, adopting and accepting the English language, our governing laws and principles, and way of life. After all, the US way of life is the reason why immigrants come here, right? Well, I'm not so sure. I feel that too many don't care a lick about being a US citizen. If the population with that mindset swells in uncontrollable numbers, our country will not be unified in the least, and will weaken. Does the phrase, "Proud to be an American" mean, or ever will mean, anything to the majority of immigrants who now demand to live here?
The U.S. culture comes from immigrants and people who's parents and ancestors were slaves. I hope and pray that any immigrants who come here hold on to their own culture enough to further influence and help the American "melting pot" culture grow. Hopefully rather than just accept what is already here they can add to it and improve it.
It didn't work then nor will it ever work, until they make getting citizenship in the U.S., legally, more efficient, and simple and easy to do.

I understand that but . . In your Opinion Should their be limits to the amount of people allowed to immigrate here? Should it be done on a Per COuntry basis . .or overall 1st X amount that get in? If there is no limit . . .is the only limitation how fast we can process them? I don't think there should really be limits. Obviously there are some criminals, that should not be accepted, but an arbitrary number limit doesn't seem like the best way to go about it in my opinion.

HUH?!? Did you not read I said 2 million immigrants last year were granted citizenship you know the reward for going through the process the right way. The problem IS, it's not in the governments best (vested) interest to close the borders and enforce the rule of law as well as the immigration laws already on the books. It is insane to think well if we give in and just grant 12-20 million illegal aliens 'carte blanche' amnesty that the demand for crossing the border will go down. Hello, if Mexico's economy would be spurred by their industry and not the majority of their GNP contributed from money sent home from illegals who crossed the border, then the demand will go down. It's STILL all about opportunity! The US government is largely acting aloof and uncooperative in trying to actually doing anything productive towards dealing with this issue. There has been little or no feasibility studies, environmental, economic impacts done on this issue, why? Because, key personnel from within the government want to ram this down our throats! Incidentally, if you legalize those 20 million, take that number and multiply by 4 or 5 and then you will have a truer representation of what illegal amnesty will cost. Plus, our resources and social programs are already taxed, what will happen you open the flood gates with this many persons to accommodate to our already over populated environment? The Mexican government needs to get off their dead asses and stop making excuses for the state of their government, affairs, policies and clean up the corruption within their own borders. Stop blaming us for THEIR problems!

I keep hearing about the "legal process" of getting into the United States.....what would that be?The average civilian can't even get a visa.The ones that do get visas are doctors,lawyers,the rich upperclass.Even students are having a difficult time acquiring visas. And can we please stop using the phrase "illegals"it's highly offensive,especially in the tone some use it in.
That's not enough to fill the demand for labor in the US. If it was there wouldn't be so many employed illegal immigrants here. Amnesty is supposed to deal with the people already here and it is generally assumed that along with amnesty their would be improved border security. Also, why can't you guys come up with a number? This 12-20 million stuff makes you look clueless. That's not at all true. Can you please explain how you come up with that number? Again, along with amnesty we should be getting increased border security. And what happened with 12-20 million number from earlier? Now you're sure that it's 20 million. Simply cleaning up corruption in Mexico isn't going to solve many of their problems because there's not enough money. We couldn't have the type of government we have if we didn't have an endless supply of money.

Let me break it down for you in infinitesimal detail then, the reason for 12-20 million figure is it's an estimate why, probably because it's difficult to actually know for certain because you know if you go through the Day Labor Watch database (hint: there isn't a database) I believe they generally deal in cash only so then, it's kind of difficult to follow a paper trail when there is no paper trail to follow. It likely is more than the 12-20 million estimate for the record. I am not against person immigrating to this country. That is the great thing about this country IS our diversity. Think of this, how long do you think you would last in say Russia or China if you speak out against a particular political policy. Hint ... remember Tiannaman Square in Beijing in 1989? Ding ... ding. Legal immigration, yes. People who want to come over here and contribute to our society, yes. Illegal immigration, NO! Allow unrestricted influx of persons to come through our borders without background checks of any kind due to the I.N.S. being overwhelmed to the point they just abandon the background checks, NO! Then, you have a different problem. What kind of people are we accepting into our midst? Rapists? Serial Killers? Child predators? I'm sorry but we have enough problems of our own without taking Mexico's problems along with ours. BTW, JM that 20 million estimate will more than likely jump up at least 4 to 5 times more because they'll go back and bring up their immediate families from Mexico and Central America. Think we have an overcrowding problem now just wait when the present estimated population of 3oo million goes up 33-50% in the next decade alone. But please keep telling me there is no problem, JM. Don't you find it a little ironic that after 9/11 that the US government pushed through the intrusive patriot act to more or less spy on their citizens? Did they close OUR borders, NO! Did they secure OUR ports, NO! Did they build the DAMN fence that congress appropriated the funds for? Well as of this moment I believe 13 miles of a 900 mile border has been built. Wow, what progress! Did they add any remote restrictions to make getting work visas, student visas or citizenship more difficult? NO! Persons from countries (mostly arabic nations) other than Mexico can simply reside in Mexico for a few years enough to assimilate the customs and cultures of Mexico and then come across a harmless illegal alien with probably a few toys to play with that we probably will not like but, I guess that point is really not important to our government after all, they have done nothing for nearly SIX years after 9/11 so why ruin a good thing, right! If you believe there will be no ramifications for this then you are simply stupid and delusional. Only half-true. Not true. Illegals have a statistically lower crime rate than legal residents, often due to the fear of deportation. Adding illegals lowers the per-capita crime rate in the country. Not true. It didn't happen in the past and there's no reason to suspect it will now. Nothing like conspiracy theory websites to back up your position! These kinds of nonsense conspiracy theories have been going on for a hundred years. Can you name a single one that actually was true?
