The hurricane is gone. 790 was talking sports until late last week, and earlier this week. Why the switch?
The only thing I can think of is that they are covering the traffic situations until all the evacuees get back into town ?
I heard them cut into Charlie's show yesterday. Apparently 740 was running off a FEMA-supplied generator which went down yesterday afternoon. Since 790 wasn't depndent on the generator they moved 740 over to 790 because their broadcasts are more critical to the community (price gouging reports, traffic, etc.). So, until 740 gets its stuff fixed it looks like 790 will have to rely on 740's generator while 740 broadcasts on 790.
740 AM transmitts from the area that was smacked by Rita and doesn't have any power to generate a signal so they are using their sister station 790 AM to broadcast on for the short term until power gets restored.
From xxx.espn790 website: "Due to damage from Hurricane Rita, we are currently off the air. We hope to be back very soon, and we hope you and your family are safe."
