As a percentage, sure, but I don't pay for stuff in percentages. I pay for them in dollars. In terms of cost, there are people blowing money every week on stuff that they could cut back on. A 125% increase per month on a dozen eggs means it went from $2/dozen to $4.50. That's about $2.50 a month. Again, that's in my case. If you use twice as many, then fine - $5.00/month.

Now those same people - how much are y'all spending on getting multiple streaming services, going out to eat, fancy cups of coffee, other "luxury" things, etc.? I mean, hell, a 6-pack of AC filters that used to cost $30-$40 is now more like $60-$70. I actually did a double-take on that one. Nat gas & electricity - I especially get griping about those. Cost to feed a family on BBQ? Lord, yes, I get griping about that. But eggs?

Everybody knows there's inflation, but this thread is about.... eggs. I'm just trying to figure out why eggs became the battlecry for people. At least pick something that really puts a beatdown on your wallet. lol.

    Egg prices are coming down.

Know what's possibly in a future shortage and price increase?

    Mayo.

This reminds me... I've never made my own mayo, and it's pretty easy. All you need is .... eggs and...d'oh.

Aioli is now as pricey as it sounds with less mayo hacks.

Can't disagree more. Prices on everything have gone up, but I don't buy a 6 pack of A/C filters all that often. I do shop at the grocery store every week, sometimes more than once, and the prices have gone up on eggs and everything else too. A small pack of berries is now nearly double the price it used to be. Milk. Yogurt. Everything I buy is substantially increased over the past 3 years, to the point that it's impossible for me to not spend well over $100, usually well over $200 on groceries. What cost me about $85 3 years ago now easily costs $170-180. It's easy to be snark and act like a $2 increase on eggs is not a big deal, but the problem is that we are being nickeled and dimed with every item. I bought scotch tape over the holidays... $4.99. Just a regular pack of scotch tape. And yeah, in the moment nobody really gives a damn about $5 unless you are having to stick to an extreme budget, but over time it's adding up.

I think everyone knows "everything's gone up in price". I said as much in the post you quoted. You honestly think I think only eggs went up in price? We're not complete idiots, my man. That wasn't the question. Why is everyone using "eggs" as the battlecry, when most people probably don't spend a ton on them a month in comparison to electricity, nat gas, fuel, etc. This thread isn't talking about inflation in general, it's talking about eggs. Eggs have been the subject of a ton of memes, tiktok videos, news articles, etc. because their price went up. I was saying if you want to save what you spend on eggs per month, buy 1 less coffee if you buy that. You can save maybe 6 months worth of egg inflation by not eating out once, which a lot of people tend to do.

You're talking about "everything going up". I'm talking about how much of a hit eggs are to these people that it's what's eating them up.

No I hear you. I wasn’t suggesting you thought only eggs have gone up.

The reason I think eggs have been the battle cry of many is bc they are a really cheap food that is high in nutritional content, so almost everyone buys them. The percentage increase cannot be ignored, even if it doesn’t hit your wallet all that hard. And the reality is that inflation hits those stricken with poverty the most, so the increase in eggs is a slap in the face to those living on an extreme budget.

Soaring egg prices prompt demands for price-gouging probe

U.S. Sen. Jack Reed sent a letter Tuesday asking for the Federal Trade Commission to investigate whether egg prices have been improperly manipulated by producers.

During AntiTrust Trial, Kroger's Pricing Exec Admits to Jacking Up Milk and Egg Prices Above Inflation

A top Kroger executive admitted under questioning from a Federal Trade Commission attorney on Tuesday that the grocery chain raised its egg and milk prices above the rate of inflation,
a concession that came as no surprise to economists who have been highlighting corporate price gouging across the U.S. economy in recent years.

It is price gouging not inflation.

    Break up the monopolies.

The bad part is the facts corporations are doing thus across the board. The greed is astounding.

The only good inflation is ZERO. Everything else is just leaking oil from a tanker until the whole ship goes down. Price fixing or not, has to be dealt with swiftly and strongly on all fronts. It's a WAR.
