http://espn.go.com/blog/truehoop/post/_/id/19413/michael-heisley-talking-turkey Can you even imagine Les Alexander going on the radio and saying some of the things this guy said. I hope that sports radio interviews puts a transcript of it up. Edit: forgot to add... you can hear the interview here... http://chrisvernon.blogspot.com/ The guy sounds like a complete moron.
I know it sounds horrible, but all Memphis fans can hope for is that old age takes care of the problem. The reality is that television contracts reward bad owners. This guy has no motivation to change anything, and that's the problem.
I will never understand the Gay for Battier trade, we wouldn't be needing to trade for Melo. Gay isn't worth the contract that he got paid this year but he knew that Memphis would pay him to stay, what else does Memphis have going for them. Still just thinking about that trade makes me want to cry. And they call DM a genius.
I certainly hope you're sarcastic. Melo, as much as I don't want him here, is 3 times the player Rudy Gay is. Even if we had kept him (and lost tons of games in the process), Memphis would have offered him the max anyway. What moron would match that contract offer?
You're a fool. Battier was exactly what we needed. A defensive specialist and a good role player for hitting 3s. Why would we have needed Gay if we already had McGrady? They wouldn't have played well together. Both need the ball to be effective.
I think they should institute a "vote an owner out" thing. Each year, the fans are allow to vote an owner out of the league. The one who gets the highest votes would be forced to sell the team. The NBA financial system allows owners like Heisley and Sterling who don't care a lick about winning and still make money out of it.
It's pretty much the same with the English Premier League. Except some are just down right stupid to get into massive debt and be forced to sell the team (Liverpool)
We made the trade at the time bc we had a scoring wing man (tmac) and a scoring center (yao) and needed a defensive presence who would help stabalize the locker room and guard the other teams top player .. morey inherited yao and tmac and he needed to win with that team .. at that time we did not need a developing player (rudy gay has only been of relevance 2 maybe 3 years) and another offensive minded player.... ofcourse since battier is older than rudy, the more time passes, the more gap there will be between shane and rudy but at the time of the trade i believe shane was the better player .. he has won all nba defense second team honors twice in his time here and been right up there many more times .. rudy gay, while being a good player, is NOT a max player and that is what he signed for .. he has never led the team past first round and we just got ride of a guy with those credentials.. in order to analyze any trade you have to look at the scenario the trade was made in, im sure everyone knew in the future rudy gay was gonna be a much much better player than shane .. they made the trade to win then.. also we got rid of swifts contract!
I never said I wouldve signed gay to the max, never, unless he starts producing more. Yes battier was brought in to Defend, I just think that Rudy couldve really learned something from Mac in his last real strong season, yeah maybe Gay wouldve opted out, maybe Tmac wouldve waited to recover while he had Gay under his wing. It is what it is, Melo seems to be closer, but sorry if some took it the wrong way, just still had that little bit of sadness that night in 06.
I know crappy owners suck for the fans, but the NBA is a business. Why shouldn't a franchise owner be able to operate his business however he sees fit?
Strongly disagree. I think we've learned that McGrady's influence on other players isn't positive. Maybe he could have taught Rudy Gay more diva skills, on and off the court.
Because they produce a crappy product. And, they enjoy a monopoly that in other industries would be illegal but has been granted an exception in return for oversight by Congress. So, if the People don't like what the league is doing, they should either bow to the Public Will or else lose the antitrust exemption. Obviously, voting out owners is a joke, but then so is the idea that an NBA team is merely a private enterprise where we have some moral obligation to allow the owner free reign. They have more free reign than is allowed to most businessmen already, and we pay the cost of it (and suffer defective products too). Interesting Q&A on major league monopolies: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/discussion/2009/10/20/DI2009102001567.html EDIT: Sorry if that came out harsh. I guess I'm feeling unusually strident today.
And people wonder why the arena is half full. The guy is a bumbling idiot in regards to the NBA and is rich enough that he doesn't have to give a damn about the city, fans, outside perception, etc. He alienated the business community, city leaders and fanbase. He actually thinks we should be kissing his ass because the team made the playoffs for 3 years.
easy there communist. Some times you need sucky franchises in a league for there to be teams with more wins than loses.
