TDS99, The '76 ers were always in the hunt before Moses and they were a very balanced team (big men, backcourt, bench). ------------------------------------------------------------------- Has anybody sat down and calculated the last time that a team won the NBA championship and did not have at least one top 50 all time player on the roster? ------------------------------------------------------------------- I always thought that the Lakers and Celts (80's era) had a consistent mix of talent through the entire lineup while the Bulls and Rockets (90's era) had one superior player and solid supporting casts. Forget their positions, were McHale or Worthy at their peaks better than Scottie at his peak? Mango
McHale, absolutely. Worthy, no. Pippen was a much better all around player than Worthy in their primes. One other thing, the dominant player on those Laker teams was Kareem, not Magic. [This message has been edited by grummett (edited January 01, 2000).]
Scarface: Odom is a clutch performer. Already has a game winning baby hook over Kevin Garnett early this year. Last year, He hit the buzzerbeater to send Rhode Island to the NCAA tournament. 1st collegiate game ever, he hit a buzzerbeating 3 against TCU to win the game. And he had another game winner during the course of the season. He seems pretty clutch so far.
scarface - the rockets were the luckiest mofos on the planet to pick up francis; there was no decision to make. it's difficult for me to even rationally make this comparison, b/c i think the rockets should cherish their luck for the next 16 years... that being said, odom is incredible... even though his triple double last game came on 2/13 shooting (i guess it should be noted that he went to the line 8 times, so should we say per chance 6-11 shooting? anyway, while i've always agreed that height was a fundamental, it doesn't seem to be a limiting factor on francis' game at all. the guy looks like he's going to have a triple double most nights... i still think that he'll be the first guard w/ a quadruple double since... was it Oscar? it's this all around play that tells me to never do these 'dream' trades: Francis vs. Odom... doesn't it seem like a top 3 pg will let you get by w/ a mediocre sf, whereas the opposite is not the case? doesn't it seem like a top 3 pg will win you more games than a top 3 sf? e.g. what do you think would happen if the Suns called the Raptors for a straight up trade: Jason Kidd for Vince Carter ahhh... to much of a Canadian variable, better yet: Jason Kidd for a resigned Grant Hill it would happen in a second.
