I think the reward is the perfect way to get Osama and I feel it is one of the only ways he will be found. Hell, Afghan's lives are so miserable you could offer blankets and food for his location and get a tremendous response as well. As for whether it is right or legal is all based on perspective. My belief is that he who holds the power makes the rules. History has shown that repeatedly. If the "Taliban" is the government and Osama is obviously a representative if not leader of this government, and he is indicted for the murder of 3,900 people and can be captured under the blanket of the "indictment". But i'm sure a Taliban ruling that the Air Strikes in Iraq or Libya is just cause for an indictment of Reagan or Bush could be justified by their own psyche. And lets not talk in terms of retaliation....because they feel the actions of September 11th are retaliation for bombings in Afghanistan, Palestinian treatment and other US attacks. This is the right way to catch Osama, the Taliban and the whole nest of hyenas, but lets not try to rationalize our actions in a "holier than thou" attitude. The irony is that we are so appalled that a country would put a bounty on our leaders head, or on the head of an individual such as Salman Rushdie, yet we advocate the same methods.
FD Kahn, "bounty" does not mean "dead or alive." This is a very common fugitive bounty for "information leading to the apprehension or conviction" of a fugitive from justice (indictments). This is the same bounty terms we place on anyone, like rapers, murderers, or the Unibomber (I think his brother got the money) or Timothy McVie (before he was apprehended), and the Lockerbee terrorists. This is NOT a mercenary contract to bring to justice "dead or alive." Those are illegal. We want to kill him. This is not the State Dept putting out a reward for anyone to kill him. If you kill him, you will not get the reward. Period! Hell, we just want to know his whereabouts,,,,so we can find him, feed him to ants for a week, then draw and quarter him and give his four limbs to four pilots to flush down their toilets at 35,000 feet, and give the torso to the Smithsonian Institute to slice into 1 million pieces and give to passengers to flush down the toilets also as a means to inspire more ticket sales. Only then, will you get the reward. But don't kill him. You won't get the reward. There is nothing wrong with the State Depts giving out rewards for information leading the arrest. This is not an assassination bounty. The point of DREAMers concerns are invalid, ino. This is just a very common fugitive bounty to help us bring someone to justice. Besides, even if we take the bounty away, private organizations still have $12m offers for the same information. Further making the concerns of this thread moot.
