i don't mean to be preachy because i'm in no place to judge people right now in my own life but you'd think what's going on in the world, we would learn from mistakes. there has never been a point in the history of the world where its cool to make fun of negative stereotypes about each other. it doesn't lead to anything good. it may be cool if you have friends who have differences and you guys do it amongst each other. but with strangers, its probably just best to avoid. and it has nothing to do with being stiff.
Thank you, FB. I typed something that has publicly been decried as offensive to Asians, quoting Shaq. It is used in a mocking way. If a desperate few of you think T_J wrote "he be" the way his over-educated self would normally type, with no intention to make fun of the race of "Revvum" Wright or "Balack", after years of race-baiting behavior on this BBS (check his presence in threads that devolve into discussions of race, and check his historical behavior toward known African American posters), then we just have to agree to disagree. And I'm not apologizing for quoting something from Shaq. I don't share his feelings or the sentiments of the quotation. I was asking if that was offensive, and apparently it is still offensive. Finally, pgabs got it right, in my view. What type of person would take the time to antagonize a stranger over racial stereotypes? ... Exactly. Just watch who keeps trying to divide us, and keep watching who calls them on their bull****.
I took it that he was making fun of Wright saying that phrase. It had nothing to do with his race if he said it. If Wright never said it then you have a valid point, but he did say it. T_J just used the popular version that is in the song.
This, in my mind, is the worst pet name TJ has ever trotted out. He is literally saying that being black is a bad thing. I cannot understand why this behavior is tolerated.
At the time I took it that T_J was saying the only reason he was popular is because he was black. I don't defend either stance but thats a counter to your interpretation.
well said, though I need to practice what you preach there... I should not let the race-baiting get me going, since that's the primary point of its existence. Hard not to point to it, like when you see someone who keeps running red lights, making the roads worse for everyone else.
That's pretty cute of you, but there's no need to be offensive or even go there to prove a point about being offensive.
Yeah, I won't do it again, period. I'm through underlining the sliding scale of allowed posting. To quote hundreds of my favorite athletes, "it is what it is." I'll stick to lame jokes and animal pictures. Like the suggestion "McCain, McSaw, McConquered" in another thread. I'm very proud of that, and I hope it turns into a campaign button.
Here is a great reason for Latinos to vote McCain. <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/rdWjjvpH1Qw&rel=0&color1=0xb1b1b1&color2=0xcfcfcf&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/rdWjjvpH1Qw&rel=0&color1=0xb1b1b1&color2=0xcfcfcf&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>
LOL Paid for by John McCain Since I am Latino, I can speak to what Obama does for us. He gives us middle class Latinos tax breaks. He'll give us better educational opportunities by funding headstart programs for young Latino children who don't speak English. He also supports multi-lingual education instead of shunning it with English first xenophobic nonsense that Republicans push. He'll provide a roadmap to citizenship for Latinos who have relatives here illegally whereas Republicans want to break up Latino families by hunting people down and shipping them off. He also provides everyone health care so that poor Latino families, of which there are many, don't have to go to the emergency room every time their babies have a simple cough. He also provides a role model for the Latino community showing that anyone truly can become something in this country regardless of race. John McCain is too busy pandering to the gun toting, homophobic, xenophobic, religious right crowd to have time for any issues in the Latino community.
I used to respect your posts, but now you are just another Robamatron. all your posts are the same. RELIGIOUS RIGHT! RELIGIOUS RIGHT! xenophobic........ha! My wife is Mexican. I haven't met a single member of her family that feels the way you do. he'll provide healthcare......he'll provide bi-lingual classes, he'll provide, he'll provide, he'll provide. Whats wrong with teaching your kids english before they enter an American school? it's the least you could do considering all the handouts you're asking for. now if you'll excuse me, I need to go read my bible and clean my rifle.
First of all, I am very independent and I call everything as I see it. I have no time for crooks in either party and as proof of that I believe I'm about the only person on this board that called for Barney Frank's resignation due to his role in the Fannie Mae debacle. So please don't try to paint me with some brush as an Obama supporter. If Obama screws the middle class as President and turns his back on his platform then I'm going to post about it, you can bet on that. Second of all, as a Latino who moved here with pretty good English speaking skills I can tell you that even with that I was at a huge disadvantage in early elementary school and fell behind quickly because I couldn't read or write in English. Instead of giving me time to adjust in a bilingual environment, I got thrown into low level classes with kids who could care less about being in school. So not only was I trying to get up to speed on a new language I had to deal with an environment in which teachers spent most time on behavioral problems instead of actually teaching. Luckily my parents were fluent bilinguals and they helped me work through it but for a lot of Latino kids they are the first ones in their families that become educated in America and speak English. They are behind from the word go and a lot of them never catch up. That's one of the ways you get a 50% high school drop out rate in cities. I consider public education and health care an investment. You fail to see the depth and interconnectivity on vital issues such as education and health care. That investment makes this country better and it makes your life better as well. Who do you think your tax dollars are building new prisons for? Those kids who fall behind early in school and never catch up. Who do you think your tax dollars are going to for expensive emergency room care? Those poor families that can't afford health care. It seems Republicans would rather spend 10x more on prisons and emergency rooms than on education and health care. I think that's pretty stupid. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure... unless you're investing in people then it's a handout? You need to change the paradigm with which you view this country.
Nothing wrong with students learning English before entering school. But what about students who move here not knowing English. What about the fact that learning two languages improves test scores, and ability to get into colleges? People who are in solid bi-lingual classes come away learning two languages and end up actually doing better on the whole than English Only students. To act like somebody who wants their children to have the advantage of bi-lingual classes is asking for handouts is a little silly.
Great ad that is running in the swing states. Nice try, Snobama. <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/UI7kDtlOpaQ&color1=0xb1b1b1&color2=0xcfcfcf&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/UI7kDtlOpaQ&color1=0xb1b1b1&color2=0xcfcfcf&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>
Market's been up 10% over the last six days, thanks. BTW- Gotta love all the personal attacks on me for sharing someone else's views. Sweet.
