He had 25 points and 5 rebounds. That's not bad. I will be patient. I think we should make the playoffs though..hopefully
The expectation that he is a franchise player. He's not. He's a legitimate all-star but not a franchise player. He doesn't possess the quickness or athleticism to be consistently dominant. His reflexes are way too slow and his arms too short (for his size). We expect a lot of a #1 pick. However, they are not all Hakeem Olajuwon's. Oftentimes they are Kwame Brown or Pervis Ellison or Joe Smith. Yao is a good player who will develop into a very good player.
Well, Yao had his chance in the first ten games. Yao was extremely passive even though every one deferred to him. The games were pathetic. When T-Mac released himself on offense, Yao talked about that he was happy to be the second option. That made me laugh. Rockets sent out the whole team and made T-Mac come here to be Yao's second fiddle, and this is what T-Mac got?! To be humble is one thing, but don't know what's his responsibility as a franchise is totally unacceptable. Unfortunately, even though Yao wants to act as a roleplayer, he doesn't play with roleplayer intensity. Roleplayers will get whipped and benched if they play so inconsistantly. The whole Rockets franchinse is on Yao and T-Mac's shoulder. If Yao doesn't realize that, we are done. Yao has to go, and it is unfortunate for Rockets and T-Mac.
I agree. Lower your expectation of Yao to be a borderline all-star right now. Maybe one day he will give a pleasant surprise.
I think that it's about time that people start to accept Yao Ming for who he is. He'll never be a great player, and people shouldn't get frustrated over that any more. I think that the high expectations on Ming have actually hindered his development. I want to see him to enjoy playing basketball again. That would help the Rockets a lot. We don't want to see a depressed giant out there every night.
I agree that it is frustrating, but I feel that it is just as frustrating on his end as well. He seems lost at times and I'm not sure if he is still trying to adjust to the NBA, has some kind of injury or pain he is dealing with, JVG gets on his bad side, or something else that we fans just don't know about. Or, if it is a combination of any and all of it. None of us know for sure. But, as frustrating and bad as it seems he plays, he still puts up between 15-25 points and 5-10 rebounds a game on a consistant basis. I haven't given up on Yao and I still believe he will become a cornerstone of a championship team. We just have to endure the lack of consistency until it finally all comes together for him. Remember, as much as we talk about Yao having to still adjust to the NBA style of play (which, as we all have witnessed, has changed dramatically this season with the more enforced hand-checking rule) but his coach and teammates are still trying to adjust and learn his strengths and game to find ways to utilize him to his max. As frustrating and stressful as it is, he will get there. We just have to have a little more patience.
Whether Yao is or is not worth the max is besides the point IMO. The point is that the team's condemnation to mediocrity did not start with the first pick in the draft, it was in 'earning' that pick in the first place. Rox mediocrity, or worse -- as experienced since '99, NINE TEEN NINETY NINE FOR HEAVEN'S SAKES, is unlikely to change as things stand today. The Mavs went from the outhouse to the penthouse quickly, and have been joined by Suns and Nugs and Heat. Look at Wiz and Grizz. Rox? Look at Hawks. Even the Clips have a brighter outlook(, tho who can trust their owner not to screw things up?). This owner needs to make some changes. Those changes need to start with an introspective look at his stewardship of the team. Then his GM, scouts, and coach(ing staff). THEN player decisions can begin. Yeah, I am frustrated as can be. I am frustrated by the players brought in. I am frustrated by the players NOT brought in. I am frustrated at how much better players here did 'there' and how much better players 'there' did than when 'here' last season.
read it again..... Jeff said that Duncan is a good guy...like his teammate(ex) D Robinson. spot on post and thread Jeff....I have tried to get that point across to some previously(albeit, in a much briefer fashion). there are very few actual "haters" of Yao..just a lot of frustrated fans.. they criticize his play on the court...but it is rarely out of hate..it is cause they know he can do better...adn expect him to do better... while it isnt unreasonable to expect better out of a guy with his skill level....it surely doesnt mean that we should get rid of him cause the fans arent worshipping his mediocre play.....he can still be a very valuable part of a championship team....it is just gonna take some time and patience..and the right teammates.
you CANNOT criticize Yao on this forum or else you will be labeled a 'Yao-Hater' I don't understand why every single YOF takes Yao criticism so personally! They think that just because we criticize even a tiny part of his game we want him out of Houston..its mindboggling...its ridiculous! example responses: 'Rocket fans ungreatful!' "Yao need go some else to LA with large asian population!" or my favorite: Yao sucks! Trade Yao to LA! please make it comes true!
Who's coming over to the dark side after this game? Odom + Mihm + Butler for Yao + Mo I think they might take out Butler out of the deal after this game though.
I don't think we are facing the right two questions- 1. Is this basically as good as Yao will be? You must consider this a possibility. 2. Could the Houston Rockets move closer to a championship if they could trade Yao right now and get much more value for him than what he is worth? In other words Yao right now is a very servicable center, and that takes care of that position for us. But I don't see him right now as the #2 impact maker we need for a championship. Now if we had a crystal ball and knew he was never going to be able to dominate at his position and we could get some unreal value for him we would be wise to take that super offer for him. Is his highest market value right now? We must consider an offer for Yao that might give us two starters and two #1 picks I think I would do it if the right players were offered. I am not bashing Yao, I am not even frustrated. I am trying to read him, I want to understand if because he plays slow and awkward so much is he going to really break out into a top ten player in the NBA.
Wow, that's blasphemy in this bbs. Yao doesn't have to be Shaq. You must be kidding. I thought y'all wanted him to play just like Shaq. No outside shooting like Brad Miller, no point-center passing like Divac. We wanted him just to bulldozer over people like the fat ass in Miami. Low post, yes. High post move, forget about it. This really surprises me. So I guess from now on, Yao could just be himself, somewhere between Shaq and Mr. Rogers. What a relief. He could now play both high and low posts, just like the 2nd half of tonight game. I'm glad y'all could finally see the real Yao.
I dont understand why u takes Trade Yao proposal so personally! U think that just because someone propose a trade they want to take advantage of Rockets? It's rediculous. Yao market value is much greater than his actual performance. Trade him away while his stock is still relatively high. Anything wrong? I am not sure u're referring to me. Actually i posted " Yao is a joke. If Rockets dont trade him as soon as possible, the organisation is also a joke. Please make it come true." I never mentioned LA. Actually I suggested Peja and Brad Miller for Yao and Mo in another thread. Is it a sensible trade to consider? Why feel extremely frustrated with the player's play on one hand. And feel offended when someone else suggest a trade on another hand? Isnt it all about to improve the team?
