I just don't see what the big deal is? The girl may not be the brightest person in the world, but she had a question, and you answered it. Maybe she was flirting with you.
I find it really funny and dumb when someone saids "im not racist, i have many (insert race) freinds. infACT some of my best freinds are (insert race)
I recently heard a topper to that one. "I'm not racist, one of my best friends in the whole world married a black woman." That's up there with the time I heard a girl say she was good at dissecting things because her dad was a doctor. Because going to med school passes genetically.
This has always annoyed me. Sometimes when I meet new people, they'll say things like "Hola, como estas?" before I ever talk to them. I'll introduce myself and they'll be like "Julio. So where are you from Julio?" I'll tell them that I was born in Houston and that I've lived here me whole life. It usually ends there, but sometimes they'll ask where my parents are from or straight up ask "what are you?" It just annoys me when people ask questions like that. Why do people care where I'm from?
probably for the best, or else someone might try to go out of their way in 3 different languages to say hi to you.
This is ridiculous. It's not racist at all. I'm Arab/Persian and I don't have an "accent". Hell, I speak English better than most native speakers do. By the same token, my cousins my cousins were born and raised in Corpus Christi (sp?) and have been there for 40+ years now, but any sentence of at least 3 words will immediately show you where they're originally from. It doesn't matter where you're born or what your nationality is/was, it's just about what/who you grew up with.
I don't have an accent, but sometimes I put on an accent just so some people would stop talking to me. Unfortunately some nosy people start asking me stupid questions about my origins.
Man I'm white, and I get the "what are you?" question all the time. 90% of the time i'm asked if i'm asian, sometimes i'm asked if I'm part hispanic. i always tell them no, i'm just a mixture of several european nationalities and iroquois indian. I still get skepticism though, people think i'm lying and insist i'm asian. it's just cause my eyes squint a lot when i smile... :/
What if I were black and she asked "Why don't you speak ebonics?" The big deal is it was offensive and I shared to the story with the board. It's over. It's not like I made a scene or tried to get her fired.
