I can be antisocial as well, not shy but i know what you mean, i have no interest in small talking with ppl I don't know. I do have the ability to make friends with ppl but just strangers at the store, on the way to work riding the elevator, i have no interest in making small talk, i dont care how ackward it is to sit and be silent, i dont want to exhert the energy to talk to them.
Ever thought about initiating conversation? I have to make small talk with uninteresting people all the time, but within the lame context of their conversation I manage to identify something that piques my interest and will allow me to launch off into some lame subject matter of my own. It's all about me anyway.
