I'm Indian, and my dad loves that stuff while I'm not that big of a fan. We've been to the smoky mountains, Florida everglades, and various other recreational camping/hiking things growing up.

Although I do agree that older generation Indian people didnt exactly have time when they came to this country to go sightseeing, they spent most of their time workin their butt off puttin food on plates, but I do see a trend to where the newer generations are goin out to those things more.

I'm not that big of a fan, I mean it's cool once in a while but I'm a city boy, I like the city lights and delights. I like LIFE and things that are vibrant and LIVING and the nature part just seems dead to me....I know that's pretty much opposite of everyone else who like nature because everything around them is green and alive but eh.

I like doing things like this. That was a lot of our recent vacation. We also like to go to national/state parks (or better yet, wildlife refuges and national forests, which are usually free), take a short hike, take a driving tour, take pics, but get back to a cheap motel room in a nearby town for the night. Keeps from having expensiveness problems or sleeping-in-the-woods problems.

I don't like vacationing in cities that much. We went through downtown Chicago just briefly on the recent trip... I think we were all wanting to get out of there. I don't know how people live and work packed so tightly like that. We felt comfortable visiting sites in open prairies and woods, and even just driving through cornfields and tiny towns.

    It's very strange.

I mean, we all lift material from other websites every once in a while, but this guy's obsession with such a random un-funny site is just odd.

I'm Bangladeshi, and I remember packing into the station wagon as a kid and hitting up Yellowstone, Zion, Arches, and a host of other parks. Good times.

More recently, I went to the Grand Canyon and saw a ton of aunties in saris with the requisite rowdy children. It's always fun to see the full out entourage in the minivan with the grandparents in tow. Saw the same thing over July 4th when we went rafting down the Truckee River near Lake Tahoe. There were at least 3 rafts full of aunties and uncles, and their kids and grandparents.

Another thing about my parents is that my dad basically grew up miles from the moutains of Kashmir in Pakistan. I've been once before, and the Pakistani portion of Kashmir is highly undeveloped, and not really touristy at all. Growing up, I don't think he ever used to go to Kashmir for vacation, so it's probably not something he'd be accustomed to doing in the US.

African/Indian? Isn't that redundant? They're the same thing right? At the very least, an Indian is like an African and Asian had a baby.

Blogs are not news sources or copyrighted. But it looks like you got your ignorant, crybaby way once again. Congrats. :)

Oops, didn't see that you had already called him out. The second I saw his post I wanted to get all "passive aggressive" on him.

Definitely didn't know it was his MO as well.

I'm in Disney right now, and if it were up to me I'd rather go to a national park. The only time I've been to Vegas, I went to the the Hoover Damn, and I went into the mountains outside the city.

I don't know what it is, I know very few blacks who go camping, my dad was never into it. however I do know blacks who hunt and fish. Actually I don't know a lot of people at all who visit our national parks.

The whole Disney for vacation deal, I could do a whole other commentary on that, and it wouldn't be broken down on racial lines. I find it amazing that anyone including my family spends this much money on amusement parks. Drove down to Cocoa Beach and rest of the family wasn't that interested.

I'm Pakistani and my parents likes the picnic style park stuff but not the rock climbing hardcore park action.

That just about sums it up for us, but cannot be seen as conclusive for all Pakistanis.

when i went to Vegas i thought, "wow, this is great and all, but save for the fake scenery i could just about do this gambling stuff 2 hours from Houston." i definitely wish i had more time to see Hoover Dam. my recent trip to San Antonio (i know it's not your typically glamorous city) but i visited the River Walk for the first time and was basically bored to death and felt suffocated from the people traffic.

as someone mentioned before, visiting small towns is awesome. that's why i love driving to Austin.
