Why doesn't Phil Jackson have a good coaching tree?

Because Phil is the great basketball psychologist and a slightly overrated coach. Let him coach a mid level team and we will see of all that Zen is BS. Now compare him to Pat Riley whose tree is endless with unknown assistants and former players that were given opportunities and were successful cause he could flat out coach with success in different eras and styles and transfer that to others. Phil ain't transfer didley squat.

He was coaching a weak team during the mid-2000s (which saw Smush Parker, Kwame Brown and Luke Walton in the starting lineup) and that team was making the playoffs year in year out.

Honestly tho, any coach with a mid level team would see mid level results. Not entirely sure what you are getting at.

If TWO years means year in year out, then you are right. (one year in, one year out ) Yes, those two years proved that he could coach a mediocre team (Kobe and Odom) just like many other coaches. But don't give me the "year in year out" BS.

I believe PJ was successful in the CBA before going to the NBA. In a sense he paid his dues more than the typical coach does. I think the concept of a coaching tree is dumb any way. That could just mean the assistants were carrying the head coach the whole time.

Phil might've been a fascist, but at least the players came to practice on time.
