Why doesn't Kevin Martin clap hands after a free throw?

So he can save his energy to run off to the other side of the court?

Wow interesting responses. I was seriously wondering why he didn't do that. I was not suggesting he doesn’t like his teammates, or that he hates the team, or that he doesn’t want to win. I was just wondering of any poster here actually knew why he didn’t do that. But thanks guys for the mature responses

To clarify he does clap other players hands when he shoots free throws, just not when others shoot them (so sorry Carl Herrera, it should not influence his shooting percentage).

Carl I watched the video (the Kevin Martin part), but they do not mention the free throws.

Actually I was thinking along a similar line the other day and wondered if it would ever come up in conversation. God I love ClutchFans!

(I'm so old that) I can remember when players did not congratulate each other after an attempt. John Lucas was the first person that I remember doing it. He was near the end of his career and was sort of a playing coach. He would come over after a miss or before an important free throw and actually talk to the shooter. Calm him down a bit, I think. does anybody else remember this/differently?

As to our Kevin, It is just a guess, but I assume he takes FT's pretty seriously. IE more concerned about the points than how he will look on Sports Center. Psychs himself in to some sort of high concentration and does not want to give it up. If nobody comes over, I'd guess that he asked them not to.

Because it is a stupid gay-ass tradition started in the 90's because kid's of the 80's never learned how to shoot free throws after spending their childhoods in the play grounds launching 3's and trying to be like Mike. In the old days, you were supposed to shoot 80 plus percent and it was not a thing of excitement when somebody actually makes one or makes two. In the 90's, players could jump and shoot threes but could not shoot a mid-range shot and a guard shooting 70% from the free throw line became a luxury so players started low fiving each other because of the astonishing accomplishment of a made free throw. Because KMArt expects to make them because he has a COMPLETE offensive game (we won't talk about D), he does not feel the need to be congratulated for doing something he is supposed to do.

Reggie Miller hated being touched in the middle of pressure free throws. I believe Martin doesn't want to be touched while shooting free throws...so he does unto others what he would like them to do unto him.

This is the most sensible response yet. I mean, a huge part of making your free throws is simple concentration... I wouldn't want to break my concentration high fiving people, either. Whatever Martin does it clearly works given his 86% career FT percentage.

I'm sure if somebody asked him why he doesn't give out fives after made free throws he would, but most likely nobody actually cares.

    What is the point?

HEY GOOD JOB ON MAKING A FREE THROW. A SHOT WHERE NO ONE GUARDS YOU?

High Fives/Slaps/Pats on the Butt after a free throw is over-rated.
