Why doesn't every team front Yao?

the disadvantage of fronting is that you can lob the ball into the interior for an easy bucket.. unfortunately with yao the other teams cheat on the weakside help in case of the lob so there's going to be at least 2 defenders near yao when teams are fronting him... obviously with good spacing when teams are fronting and helping weakside, someone is wide open on the perimeter

Because if you put t-mac into the game, he'd just drive and dish it to yao for an easy dunk.

Oh, wow, guess no one needs t-mac.

You put any penetrating player in they can do that....why wasn't AB in there?

It is so obvious to anyone who has played or coached beyond the 5th grade level.

The problem with your logic is that was the tmac that played for Orlando. The tmac that plays for us the last 2-3 years would just jack up a low percentage long range jumper. He doesn't like to attack the basket anymore. If we had the attacking tmac, the rockets would have won playoff series by now.

There are a few ways to pick that defense.

One is to quickly send someone to the FT line and pass the ball to him the lob pass is much easier from there and the weak defender have to cover that man at the FT line. Scola will be great to do that. San Antonio does it a lot with Oberto and Duncan.

    Second
one and the one that Rockets used a lot is send someone to set a pick on Yao in the paint and swing the ball to the other side. Since the offensive foul on Barry they never run that play again this game and is quite effective.

    Third.
This one is run beautiful with T-Mac. and is the 2 man game. Yao set a pick to T-Mac and is almost automatically you will score. The bad thing Houston have nobody that can do this other that T-Mac in the Rockets team.

There are a few other but this one are quite effective, it will help is someone can attack the basket, you dont need to score just go and get the ball vlose to the basket Yao will get an easy offensive board and basket.

BTW, when Yao have Murphis with 5 foul with 3 minutes to go and winning you don't take Yao out you will make Houston play Zone like the did one time and force a play to get the 6 on him just don't bail him out sitting Yao and bringing Scola they lost like 3 offensive possession doing this and never stop The Pacers from scoring.

Not saying that I agree with the move but I think that adelman was afraid of brooks geting abused by ford or jack on the other end so he kept rafer in for defence. Also Aaron made some silly turn overs in the third so that may of had contributed to why rick pulled him.

I know steve is not the best defender in the world anymore (if he ever was) but at least he as some size for his position and he can finish at the rim with out getting stuffed 80% of the time. I hope hes able to play buy January. I have know desire to see rafer on the court in close games in the 4th quarter.

because there's no need. yao doesn't dominate consistently enough to warrant it. teams can still beat us even when giving up 20+ pts to yao. and yao only averages 18 pts a game this season. playing behind him with constant double teams would suffice on most nights. if yao appears to be unstoppable in a particular game, then they can adjust the denfense in game. but that doesn't happen every night. no need overplaying against him.

SF is not on anybodys radar right now, sure hope he can do something come the second half because our big three come up short, we need someone that can take the starters job from Rafer.

    +1

rafer did the right thing driving, its just a shame that he can't finish well.

A reason why all teams don't front Yao is because fronting Yao takes ALOT out of you. it was WAY more tiring then playing normal D, as your constantly forced to lean and push on a 310 pound brick wall.
Fronting has been effective not because Yao hasn't been playing it right, but beacuse our guards are doing the wrong thing. Drive the damn ball and everythign is solved.

The fronting defense was invented by Don Nelson not Najera!

Fronting, constant double team and physical defense are THREE effective ways to neutralize Yao. Every team should play these ways! Yao may still score 22points but he will not decide the outcome of the game!
