I think JVG puts Bowen into the game as a message to the rest of the team. Play your ass off and you will get minutes. It is not a response to the needs of the game, but rather a warning to the rest of the team. Well maybe urging is a better choice of words than warning.
Wow! Just looked it up. Who has the highest career FG% - Barry, Padgett or Bowen? It's Bowen!! I couldn't frigging believe it! Now why has his shooting gone in the toilet the last two years? Could it be the Van Gundy defensive training effect?
I could not agree with this post more. I would even be in favor of starting Hayes at power forward, even if he is only 6'6". If he bulked up a little more, he could be a poor man's Ben Wallace sans the shot blocking. Don't forget that Rodman was only 6'6", not the 6'8" I think he was listed at when he was playing. Sure, I just mention Hayes along with two potential HOF-ers, but I really think Hayes' production will increase proportionately with the minutes he plays. If we resign Hayes over the summer, I would like to see how he plays at the PF spot in the summer leagues, then into the preseason. We could use a 12 rpg player along side Yao. Hayes could also be the bruiser I KNOW ALL OF YOU WANT ON THIS TEAM!!! We have been tinker bells at the PF spot since Otis Thorpe was traded (sorry Charles, you were really good, but you never were "tough"). Oh well... -P1st, S2nd
I see Hayes as Yao's answer for Udonis Haslem to Shaq. He's short, but he will grab a ton of rebounds and he is very mobile.
I just don't get it about Hayes. He's not Kevin Garnett by any means, but he's damn productive and active. Why would you not play this guy atleast 25mpg? It's not like Juwon is doing anything. Sure he'll get eaten alive by some guys defensively but Juwon isn't exactly Charles Oakley '94 either. Hell, forget about Juwon. Why the hell is Ryan Bowen playing ahead of this guy? It's not like Hayes is some journeyman - he's 22 and has room to improve. I'm a huge JVG supporter, but not playing this guy is inexcusable.
hayes has no range on his j. has had 1 offensive rebound in the last 37 minutes that he has played and howard has played great the last 3 games...what are you guys watching...why do we want to change the rotation after every loss.
We sit there and watch the Suns get three offensive rb's on the same possession. We know our guys are playing a back to back and their legs are tired. We wonder why two-buck Chuck can't get 6 minutes a half and you wonder what game WE are watching? Now my washing machine repairman reminded me yesterday late PM that Clyde said during the game: "fresh legs!" But then who is Clyde? What does he know? He probably never played in the NBA like Van Gundy did......er......uh..... Besides Bowen has not been playing much lately, what gets him back into the rotation - his 28% shooting vs. Hayes' 50% or so?
Hayes vs. Bowen per 48 minutes fg% 50 29 fta's 4.3 1.1 fga 10.5 9.1 rb 16.5 6.7 orb 5.2 2.4 asst 1.1 1.7 stls 1.9 1.6 blks 1.3 0.5 to's 0.8 1.1 Roland rating from 82games.com: +6.2 -11.2 Hayes is 3rd behind Tmac and Yao. Rybo is last. You lose nothing with Hayes in the game vs Bowen and you gain much. Hayes' orb is as good as Mutombo's over the season. Does Hayes need some more time with this team to gel and to learn? Sure he is a rookie. But we give up so much with Rybo on the floor. We are getting some good orb's and putbacks or ft's from Hayes. I don't know where this 1 orb in 37 minutes stat came from because I remember Hayes getting fouled regularly lately on the putbacks and going to the line. The guy deserves AT LEAST 10-15 MPG esp. when we need fresh legs.
