Not to mention Curry can actually play as a pg where his lack of d doesn't really matter (is there really an elite pg defender aside from Rondo?). Man I'd trade the entire roster we have to get Curry on the team.
I try and watch all the Golden State games and Curry is definitely a keeper. If you trade anyone, you would trade Ellis and build around Curry. The team plays so much better with Curry out there instead of Ellis. I would trade anyone on the Rockets for Curry.
Rose is shooting 44% for 24.7 ppg on 20 shots a game. Again, if Ellis replaced Rose on the Bulls with that already great head coached team, they would be at a similar record.
Not really, they are actually similar players, Ellis is really good at the isolation, same with Rose. They matched up a few weeks ago and Ellis won the matchup with ease.
put it this way: if rose has a bad offesive game, he can still make plays for his teammates. now watch ellis with a bad offensive game. rose is a superstar. ellis is a scoring star. big difference. nobody is saying ellis can't score.,
I'll admit Rose's passing has improved quite a bit compared to his early years in the NBA. But he's not a GREAT passer yet as he's almost averaging 4 turnovers a game. Furthermore, Rose has the ball in his hands nearly all the time. Ellis has to share sometimes (even though many think he's a ballhog) with Curry. Seems like Ellis is solid at passing when he is scoring as well. Whatever though, obviously I'd take Rose over him but Ellis deserved the all star spot!
Career numbers: Ellis 19.2 ppg; 15.71 fgapg; 1.22 (points per shot); 35.3 mpg; 0.54 ppm Allen 20.4 ppg; 15.78 fgapg; 1.29 (points per shot); 37.1 mpg; 0.55 ppm Iverson 26.7 ppg; 21.78 fgapg; 1.23 (points per shot); 41.1 mpg; 0.65 ppm Anthony 24.8 ppg; 19.28 fgapg; 1.29 (points per shot); 36.4 mpg; 0.68 ppm Ellis's efficiency is not too much worse than these elite scorers. BTW, I am not a Melo fan. But I'd take him over Iverson any day.
It always amazes me that when Monta Ellis' name comes up in a thread that someone will always chime in with "he doesn't do anything else but score". Well, he's #22 in the entire league in assists per game. So approximately 1/3 of the teams in the league don't have a single player averaging more assists/game than Ellis. The only non-PG that averages more assists per game than Ellis is some guy named Lebron. He's also #3 in the league in steals. One of only 3 players in the league who average over 2 steals per game. If he's a one dimensional guy then you'd better start classifying Kobe, Wade and Durant the same way.
Ok some notes: 1) Iverson (just like with Franchise and Starbury) are horrible basketball players. They were just lucky they played in an age where stats analysis started and ended with "points per game". 2) Even with that said Ellis doesn't come close to sniffing Iverson's jock. Iverson due to his style faced defenses nearly 1-on-5 on every possession, while Ellis plays on a GS team stacked with offensive threats. Even if the points are similar, Iverson's points were much difficult to obtain esp. since he played in the handcheck era. Iverson playing in today's NBA would probably tear defenses apart, and he might actually end up being an efficient scorer with the watered down d.
yeah, because not winning a championship automatically makes you a bad player, right? kind of like steve nash, karl malone, john stockton, reggie miller, charles barkley, etc.
Monta Ellis has a bad rep to recover from, he was picked as a risk and then placed as a cornerstone of the franchise (but after last year, curry was a good back up plan). They can't co-exist, curry needs to be taking more shots and ellis demands the ball because he can flat out create. Either curry works on his PG skills, or he's going to be shipped (considering Ellis doesn't walk, which he might) Ellis just needs a decent PG and a big and he could take a team. (Orlando?)
You started out by stating they are practically the same player...but now you'd 'obviously' take Rose over him? There are a lot of reasons Rose is better than Ellis and you know what they are...why try and pretend like you don't?
Umm, i never said he was a bad player and i sure as hell don't think AI was. the question presented asked why no one talked about him. My point was, that much like AI, they aren't great team players that you can plug into different teams and remain at an elite level. They can lose that greatness or effectiveness, which is my guess as to why there isn't a lot of talk about Monta and why no one really wanted AI, even when he could still play at the end of his career.
Umm, hand check was eliminated in 1994. Iverson came into the league in 1996. Get your facts straight. I love how a lot of people just assume that all retired players played in the hand check era. Iverson was a beneficiary of the "breath on him and foul" thing. Besides, he was a career .313 3pt shooter. He was great at getting to the hoop using his speed, either making some difficult layups or getting fouled throwing his body to the defenders. It's a myth that Iverson was facing harder defenses. It might LOOK harder because he couldn't shoot consistently from outside.
