uhhhhh......this would never happen to hakeem because of illegal defense... as a PG you gotta find a way to get yao the ball...it doesnt matter. yao has gotta get more shots than he did tonight. i wish alston could drive and dish...
Just noticed your sig...not as far fetched as you seem to think. The man knows how to pass the rock. Hits people with the ball right where they like it. Yao can catch and turn with that TAJ b'c Rafer hits him right at the perfect heighth. Guy s finish smoothly on the break because Rafer hits them in stride. Just one of those little things that really does make a big difference. I know Clyde is a lil crazy sometimes but he did play the game and that's one of those things he understands as a scorer, havin that pass hit you w/o having to reach or throw you outta balance makes the game so much easier. Nash does a great job of it, as does Skip...too bad he doesn't do many other things around the same level as Nashty.
As a big man Yao has to get himself open, hold position, and put up a target as well, it goes both ways. Illegal D woulda cut down on alot of it, but I noticed 10 or 12 trips where it was simply one man (usually Harrington) fronting him and Yao couldn't hold position when he got it either by slipping in front or after ball reversal.
Its a combination of things that pose problem when feeding the ball to Yao when he is being fronted. 1) Yao is tall so he has a higher center of gravity. Which means balance will be an issue. I think most teams know this by now and they try to throw him off balance. 2) Yao is slow. The post passer has a very small window of opportunity to pass the ball when being pressured. When the pass is thrown in those situations, Yao has to go get the ball. Unfortunately when guarded by quick players, he gets dislodged or pushed off balance and the quicker player is faster to the ball. 3) Yao still needs to perfect the art of sealing his man off. He has greatly improved in this regard but when it comes to fronting and catching lob passes, it has to be perfect. 4) Back to balance issue. Once the lob pass is caught, it takes time for yao to regain his balance. Usually defense recovers by then to strip him off of the ball. 5) Our post entry passers aren't particularly gifted. Tmac is the best at feeding the ball to Yao and Battier is also decent at it. When it comes to feeding the ball to Yao in these kind of frantic situations though, you need 2 or 3 damn near perfect passers working in cohesion and we just don't have them. There are two other ways to alleviate this kind of defense.... 1) Torrid 3 point shooting....unfortunately we have Rafer though. AND 2) Penetration by the guards and drawing fouls or spoonfeeding Yao for layups....but again, unfortunately, we have Rafer.
Very difficult when he can't seal off his man and complicated by the fact that even if he is the tallest man in the leauge he can't jump.
Yao need come out, and drive his men out. In this way, he can be a PG to pass the ball to a cutter. He can also make a jumper, etc. Someone needs to tell JVG how to deal with this kind of defence.
I can't understand why Rafer is WORSE at baseline threes... Anyways, he shoots the samer percentage pretty much anywhere, so if he's going to shoot, I'd rather him taking a shot worth 1 extra point.
Sometimes when I'm sitting quietly, pondering anything, sometimes life, my future, the present, I suddenly get enraged with anger and scream out WHY THE HELL IS THIS POINT GUARD THATS SHOOTING IS HURTING MY TEAM STILL PLAYING ON IT DADGUMMIT. does anyone else have that? I think it's called Alstonism Syndrome
It's funny because in comparison to some of the top pg free agents this summer Rafer is still probably better just based on his ball handling alone.
