Why does Kenny Smith make such ignorant statements?

Please explain the irony. Dream didn't make everyone look better, he did make everyone better. That's what the best of the superstars do.
Was he better than Rafer? Well, yeah, but is that saying much?
I don't remember anyone claiming Kenny Smith to be any more than a role player. What you don't understand or fail to point out is that statistics alone do not define a player. Great example is Mutumbo. No one on the bench has been more animated than Deke. He doesn't allow his teammates to get down on themselves. He pushes the guys to be better. He's also been a huge part to Yao's improvement and success. Why do you think he's still around?

We never get to see what goes on in the locker room, but by judging his personality on TV I'd be willing to bet he was far above "average" inside the locker room. There's a hell of a lot more that goes on that just what we see on the court and to judge a player purely on that is ridiculous.

How to Rafer get pulled into this? That was uncalled for.

I think you misunderstood my statement about irony. It's ironic that Kenny and talks about who makes people better when he himself was made better by a far superior player. BUT he doesn't seem to recognize how much McGrady makes people better. Clearly Dream made everyone around him a better player.

There have been a few people that have thrown around the words "great PG" when talking about Kenny. I just wanted to try and set the record straight for the young kids who weren't around when Kenny played.

Where did you pull this whole locker room presence thing from??? I didn't say Kenny wasn't valuable or a great team guy. On the contrary, he was a very good guy to have on the team.

So we shouldn't base the majority of our opinions on how players play??? Really? Considering we almost never know what goes on in the locker room other than rumors what the hell else should we base it on?

I compared Rafer to Kenny because I think it is natural to compare former players with current ones, like the recent Clyde vs. TMac thread. I don't hate Rafer, but I do think Kenny Smith was better. What's uncalled for about that? If I say Kenny Smith was better than Eldrige Recasner is that uncalled for?

Kenny and Charles love trash talk against our big guy and Tmac. Who ******* cares! I think we got better odds of winning more this year than last year despite of balk up talented western conference teams. Tmac has got better supporting cast this year with still deeper bench. I just wish we can find someone who will fill the void in the center position.

I wasn't referring to 3pt contests. Kenny was very streaky, but he wasn't as streaky as Rafer. You're right there were many games where he didn't do jack. We can say the same thing about Rafer Alston though. I agree, I think alot of it was mental with Kenny Smith.

I agree, Kenny was not much of a defender and Rafer is better. As far as floor general, I do think Rafer does a better job of pushing the ball, but he is not very good at throwing post entry passes which just boggles my mind. He seems to make a fair amount of mistakes in the half-court set too. Nonetheless, I think that I give Rafer the edge here.

If Alston keeps shooting the way he does, then hey it's all good.

I'd still take Kenny though, because he was more consistent, but I don't think the difference between who is better is all that great.

T-Mac does not make the players around him better. Kenny and Charles make a lot of entertaining but stupid comments but this was not one of them. Until McGrady starts driving to the hole more than he shoots jumpshots he will not consistantly make others around him better.

I am posting an opinion of Kenny Smith without really reading everyones quotes so forgive me if this comes out of nowhere.

Kenny Smith is and with always be that little dog chasing the big dogs around. Like the old Looney Tunes cartoons with Sylvester the cat and Tweety bird. Nipping at the heels of Charles and Magic and even Reggie. "Can I go too Chuck"? "Can I?" "Come on, I can do it too, Magic."
He was lucky enough to come to Houston and actually win titles, which inadvertently, solidified his names in the annuals as a champion. But, in no way does that make you a great player or a good player for that matter. You, Kenny Smith, are nothing more than a Chris Jent, a Tim Breaux, or better yet a Eric Riley. All just lucky enough to be on teams that did something. Kenny Smith now lives off his accolades as a champion, which landed him the job at TNT. His insights about teams and players are usually morose and vague, but mostly sound as though he is repeating what he heard someone else say; but when you say it Kenny, it comes out as incoherent rambling. And have I mentioned that the only reason I watch the pregame, halftime or even the post game shows with Kenny, Charles, and Ernie, is because of the way Barkley makes fun of almost everything that comes from Kenny's mouth. The same way Snapper Jones used to shut up that goofy looking idiot Bill Walton on the old NBA on NBC. Bill would say something stupid, and Snapper would say something like, "Do you not hear what comes out of your mouth?" or "who thought that one up for you Bill?" God bless Snapper Jones. SO........
Back to Kenny.......Keep up your idiotic sayings, your relentless talking during dunk contests even though you should have nothing to say about dunking, your one sided ideas of how teams should play, and your ideas o who is a good player and who is not. You sir, don't mean ***** to anyone, you never will. And, please, please, please, when you try to come out on TV and criticize players for this and that; don't forget how much you truly sucked as a player. Thank you and good night.

PS....I know Kenny participated in dunk contests, but the dunks he used in them he stole from Vinny Del Negro from their Sacramento Kings days...Ask Kenny.....He knows......

I've seen some of your posts in several threads, you definitely is a Yao Hater!

Think about Rockets' slogan of this season: It's Time! It's time for championship! And look our team's chemistry recently, the rox is a real title contender now! All the rockets do believe that It's Time! But now Yao's absence of the rest season which break down the dream of championship!

Yes, the team is still strong without Yao, and it's ok to go to playoff, even rockets may pass 1st round if they get top 4 seed! But that's not enough! What we need is championship! Our two stars who are not ever young, now is their career's prime period, we do not have much time rest, damn next season...next season...!
