Im not positive what you’re trying to argue here tbh. Are we gonna cherry pick single games to denounce a player? And if you’re surprised a 2nd year PG will have bad games then idk what to tell you.
Seriously you need to learn to read, I didn't threaten a single person in that post. Honestly, take the time to actually read what you're responding to, it's embarrassing that you've done this twice today alone. As you seem to struggle I'll rephrase that entire post in baby language: Me point out man not hard. Man all front. Me say what actual hard men does. Get it dummy?
This is an ‘Ime hates Reel Sheppard’ thread not ‘a Reed Sheppard is on pace to be a really good player in his mid 20s’ thread. The current concerns with him as a feature big minute player heading into the playoffs are legit and the opponent quality from his sample of minutes people are pulling stats from is objectively too weak to claim it translates to playoff ball vs top teams. We already know it’s going to be the talking point every game. I was responding to another that brought up the pelicans. This isn’t a math equation with a set control to make direct comparisons off of, every team is different, they play different lineups throughout the game, some teams are better than others, some succeed in different ways.
Right but posting 1 specific game stats is reductive and doesn’t help your argument. Do you really want me to post stats from a good Reed game? I don’t disagree there are legitimate concerns currently. If you think Ime has handled Reeds minutes without criticism idk what to tell you. I don’t think Ime hates Reed, I merely think Ime is a bad head coach. Reed offers a skillset literally no one else on the team can offer. He’s made 24%(!!!) of the teams made 3s for the season. Obviously a player who deserves consistent minutes. He’s in his 2nd year and we’re clearly not a real title contender. His development is paramount for the team going forward. Even if you don’t buy his long term ability, find that out now with genuine consistent minutes. Ime was given such an obvious avenue to find that out this year with Fred going down and just absolutely **** the bed in that regard.
Same reason he hates having to play Alpi, he can't coach that type of player. He needs a certain type of player to succeed with his defensive scheme.
I'll preface my comments by saying I've never coached pro sports, but I have led, coached, developed and mentored a lot of young people in varied environments and occupations for decades. My observations... - Ime is doing Reed no favors with the constant changes in his playing time and starting/bench roles. The kid is 21 years old and really in what is his rookie season considering last year he was virtually redshirted by Ime and Stone (could've spent more time developing at RGV). When he's started recently he was playing free, it opened up our entire offense, and led to winning (the bottom line). Is he a perfect/polished product? Hell no, but he's the most stable and well-rounded PG we have on the team. - Ime isn't doing the team any favors either. He started his lineup experimentation too late. He had the whole season to work through various combinations and stubbornly latched onto the forward-centric starting five that was riddled with issues and left our bench hollow. - Ime's defensive schemes/rotations don't look that good even when Sengun and Sheppard sit. Why is that? Maybe some of you advanced stat/metrics gurus can support or refute what my eyes see. - I use to love Tari, but this season it seems he's hunting his game versus making the right play. He's like 30% good Tari and 70% bad Tari on most nights. I'd recommend a sign-trade in the offseason, think it's best for both sides. - On the bright side, Amen seems to have said f_ck it and is asserting himself. Last night was a preview of more to come--I HOPE!
Agree with your post in general....except this part... I think sometimes his preferred guys just look better making the same mistakes. https://ibb.co/zHTLs62B No coach with a normal amount of brain cells is playing Holiday over Reed. Not even last year. Just like no real coach would have opted to play Fernando over Sengun. And while we're at it: https://ibb.co/Pvkn0N2N Thats Fred last year vs Reed this year... Fred does have a better asst/to ratio. Its not staggeringly better, but it is solidly better. But believe it or not Reed clears Fred as a complete player. The defense is negligible and Reed's scoring and gravity are much better. And we're talking about a 21 year old vs a guy who will be 33 in less than a year coming off a torn ACL. From the moment Fred went down Reed shouldve been made the pg and given the keys. Reed and Amen shouldve been growing and getting chemistry as the starting backcourt all year. But instead our HC chose to keep the spot warm for his BFF.
This nails it for me. The issue with Ime jacking with the rotation and more directly Reed is that at some point here shortly whoever we play in the first round is going to clamp down on KD and force everyone else to beat them. And Ime’s going to have to rely on Reed to bail him out. So rather than keeping his role consistent, he’s going to have to hope that Reed will be able to adapt to bench spark plug.
Look it is just MATH, if KD shoots 51 % from 2 on 20 shots, he would generate roughly 21 ish points. If Reed shot 40% from 3 on 20 shots, he would generate 24 points..... We are losing at the math game.....and it is another reason REED has to play 36 mpg - we need his 3pt shooting and he needs to let it fly. DD
Bro out here in full confidence walking around acting like he made some unheard of statistical breakthrough while not understanding sample size. I have never heard of someone using an n=1 so he’s breaking new ground someone break out a simple T-test (I did one for Sheppards +\- back with a p <0.0001) for the aggregate and show the likelihood a 20 or so sample size is “simply due to chance” the internet is just one of those places where people like @SamFisher dont know what they don’t know and aren’t remotely competent to even verify themselves with something like AI
Yeah, but that doesn't really track his impact, the eye test says that the ball moves around more with him on the floor and others get better looks which ultimately lead to wins. Reed's gravity is just as important as his actual shooting. It is real that we are 16-4 with him as a starter, but like any starter, some games will be better than others, but every game has his gravity in play. He is a REAL 3pt threat on a team that lacks 3pt threats..... Reed is arguably our 2nd or 3rd most important player on the floor. DD
He’s not shooting 40% on high volume vs good fast teams that are hunting him on defense and shaking his confidence while his teammates are barking at him. He’s sitting down in a chair in those situations and then going back in when that situation doesn’t apply so he can produce the 40% on high volume numbers in the first place.
Exactly DD! If we convert all of those wasted misses into better chances then we win the math game and the game period.
Ime is going to Ime. We likely lose in the first round of the playoffs with Reed mostly glued to the bench. Hopefully Stone and our billionaire owner see it, realize it, and do something about it in the offseason bringing in a better coach like Mike Malone. Otherwise it will be a rinse and repeat next year only Reed will get even fewer minutes with Fred back.
Good post. I've been saying that Ime lacks big picture planning. I can understand he uses "tough love" for Sengun and Reed to make them better defensive players. But he completely neglected their development on the offensive side. He should have tinkered the starting lineups and rotations early on to prepare for a cohesive team going into the playoffs. Instead, he keeps deciding from game to game, heck, from quarter to quarter, depending on whether the guy makes mistake or hits shots or whatever things he does wrong. Him being a basketball player himself should understand playing well is not just about not making mistakes or playing hard. Those are certainly important things. But rhythm, confidence, and chemistry, trusting each other, which take time to build, are important factors to make a team plays well together. His coaching philosophy may be good for high school or college. At the pro level, players are supposed to figure out themselves how to improve their techniques. If they don't, there are always assistant coaches and other resources for them to learn. As head coach, his most important responsibility isn't to teach how each player plays correctly but to figure out how to put the team together in an optimal unit.
