Amen. The better half and I hardly ever watch network TV anymore, except for Seinfeld reruns, the news, and the odd special or to check out a new series. (which is usually awful!) HBO is amazing.
One question about "Six Feet Under", when the characters start having conversations with the dead people, are they somehow connected to their spirits, not like "The Sixth Sense" but just some how picking up on some vibes. Or is just the living person's conscious.
HBO has good shows because they don't try to please everyone. So many shows on network TV are dumbed down and homoginized to appeal to the broadest audience base they can get. Reality tv is a perfect example of this. No one needs to think about the dialogue, plot, etc. It is just pure voyerism. The non-sex shows on HBO have plots, dialogue, character development, etc. They engage the viewer. I think it would be great if Joss Whedon got a series on HBO, although I think he does some of the best stuff on network tv already.
Joss tried to get Showtime to air "Firefly" but I think they passed. However, FOX will be releasing a DVD set of all 15 episodes. I loved HBO's "Oz" but was pretty disappointed with the series finale.
FX has a couple of good ones too. The Badge is awesome and the premier of Lucky was kinda cool too. There is another one coming out about plastic surgeons in Hollywood called "nip and tuck" that looks interesting. FX call it HBO "lite"
