The author was trying to make a point, and the truth got in the way of some of his points, so like any good writer, you lie.
Perhaps, but he gives Shaq and Duncan respect, Bird, and Jordan respect - why omit Hakeem? And it's a lot of sportswriters who do that. Just because what - Hakeem had a nigerian accent or something? What is it? Tim Duncan played for San Antonio - so it ain't the city. I mean, even when Hakeem played he was disrespected by the media. I never - to this day, ever understood why. Before people said Ewing was better than Hakeem. Then it was Duncan. Or Shaq. Frankly, it bugs me a lot.
Its a little strange that Hakeem's signature move, the Dreamshake with a fadeaway baseline, that was his most deadly move, isn't featured once in that video. I guess he did it so regularly it wasn't that spectacular.
Because in all honesty, it went from the Magic/Bird era to the Jordan era to the Duncan era, they were the dominant players of their era.
I really respect Wilbon as an analyst. According to his list (Bill Russell, Magic, Bird, Jordan, Tim Duncan and Kobe Bryant) the players have won at least 4. I'm not disrespecting Olajuwan in the least, I watched him as I was growing up in the Clutch City era, he inspired the "heart of the champion" I find in myself. I just think Wilbon was comparing Lebron to players that won 4+ because it is expected by the media that he should win at least that many.
dude, didn't i teach you anything about rookies? the enemy is not outside, the enemy is within. I doubt rookies know the story of clutch city. it's like russian spies living in america. fake americans.
These fake superstars today only wish they had fraction of the work ethic or skills that Hakeem had. Kobe and Dwight know where to go to upgrade their skills while LeBrick and Bosh play fake ass rockstars who pretend like they already got the ring like 4 months before the season even starts. Hakeem would still school 85% of these weak ass big men in the league. Bosh couldn't even hold the Dream's jockstrap. Long live King Hakeem! Eff Queen James!
Barkley is the person who went on record saying that he wouldn't have gone and teamed up with other superstars in his prime. Wilbon is using the other stars as an example for Barkley's statement
In with the conspircy ideas but u never know it could be that .. I'll keep saying he wasnt that popular outside Houston .. He lacks that swag And he doesnt need it .. I like hakeem the way he is .. Iam 17 so I didnt really watch the 90s but what if hakeem one a third ring between 95 / 98 would this still be happening ..
You're not too far off with that. Hakeem is often overlooked by Jordan era writers and fans because Hakeem was the anti-Jordan.... No shoe contracts, no licensed apparel, no tv or movies, he was a foreigner who wasn't Christian and English was not his first language, he was modest and humble and his game was not high flying... But sweet post poetry and crushing defense... Hakeem was the least flashy/marketable superstar the NBA has ever known.
I think he gets more respect than ever - he's just not a self-promoter - he's humble and goes about his business without attracting a lot of attention.
There were two hakeems. The ear liar one was brash, angry, and was high flying. Even later in his career he was very flashy in terms of moves he made.
Hakeem is the greatest center that has ever lived. The other morning on Mike & Mike in the morning, Mike Greenberg even mentioned that when people talk about the greatest players...how come Hakeem is left out? If the Rockets would have beaten the gay ass bulls for a championship, then their titles would have "more value." But instead people say all the time that we only one cause Jordan was out of the league. F that, we would have both of those years no matter what...maybe with the exception of the Supersonics(they would always beat us down back then.) And for all you MJ lovers, he was in the league when the rockets won the 2nd title. So bite me!
