i have no issues with chuck is starting as long as mcgrady is starting too. mcgrady creates pretty much all of chucks opportunities and still the best decision and perimeter play maker we have. with tmac out and the entire offense running through yao its just way tooo easy for chucks man to leave chuck and start doubling yao before the catch.
Did chuck play after he was first pulled out in the first? I remeber thinking to myself chuck didn't come back in. And he didn't start the 3rd either. The end might near for the chuckwagon.
I think Adelman is very close to moving Scola or Landry to the starting lineup. In Chuck's defense, he looks much better in the starting lineup when both Yao and McGrady are there with him. Without one of those guys, particularly McGrady, you need more well balanced offensive players. With Yao and Tracy, Chuck's lack of scoring isn't as much of an issue, and he does enough other things that make him a positive contributor overall.
Probelm with Hayes is that he got no hops. Ive seen him get blocked so many times lately. His offense is zero and he has the ugliest free throw stroke in the league. He's a good guy though.
It's coming to end. No way Chuck stays in front of Scola and Landry. I would love to trade Chuck and MJ for another athletic wing player or a taller version of landry
agree that Chuck does better with mcgrady. I think when the defense commits to stopping a drive (usually TMac's) and chuck gets the easy pass - he scores more easily. But with some of our other penetrators (head or rafer for example) the defense doesn't have to commit completely to them(since they miss a good number of driving shots) and can bother Chuck somewhat.
MJ - yes because he is a bad contract and hasn't played well at all except for the first couple of games. Chuck - No! He earns less than 2 million a year and will for the next three. He is underpaid. You don't trade away players that earn next to nothing and are capable of being a starter to get more 'flashy'. Chuck is a keeper regardless if he starts or spends most of the time on the bench.
Chuck used to be my favorite player, untill he started starting... it wont be much longer, adelmen is satrting to believe in his rookies, chuck only played 7 minutes against the trailblazers and i like him coming in off the bench for defensive purposes. when he starts he is the "adam everett" of the rockets.
don't get me wrong, I love Chunk, but maybe it's because he has 6 fouls to give each game (the reason he continue to start)
Hayes starts so that Yao can get double teamed on offense and give us a challenging game. There is *no* way he should start. The NBA is moving to a league of players with multiple skills. Chuck can't even make layups or shoot anything let alone FTs. Come on! Chuck Hayes is a throwback to the past.
Chuck is still a great rebounder, defender. I still see the Rockets needing this guy, but yes, his minutes will probably diminish due the emergence of the Rookies. I really don't think Hayes ever really imagined he would be in the starter position forever. He will do whatever is asked of him. If that means coming off the bench to make some hustle plays he will do it. The guy is a" consumate professional day in day out"
Like I've been saying, if you're gonna play 4 on 5 on offense with a defensive player, make sure that player is good enough to make us play 6 on 5 on defense, to balance things out. Hayes is good defesively, but never that good. Defensive players that good have names in the likes of Dennis Rodman, Dikembe Mutombo, and Ben Wallace. Like DD said, Hayes was a stop gap measure whose gap is closing fast. So, Hayes is still starting because he's got pictures of Rick pricking a child Greek. Seriously, maybe Rick wants a strong bench that could score, like the bench mob he had back in Sacremento. If Scola starts, then Hayes will significantly down the firepower of the second unit. It was the same reason Hayes started last season over J.Howard. Pairing Hayes with backup Mutombo would be disaster on offense. Playing with 111 masks Hayes' offensive woe a bit. So if Scola starts now, we don't have a solid backup that can score. Yeah I know Landry has been amazing, but he's still just starting to prove himself. Needs to mature on defense and keep building confidence. Maybe when Landry gets consistently solid, then it's time to demote Hayes. So far, it's looking good baby.
am I the only one amazed with what happened to the old Chuck Hayes?? the guy that used to go 4-4 from the field and get 14 rebounds, 6 of which are offensive rebs every game?? the way I felt about Chuck was the way I feel about Landry today, he was the young guy that made you think "how the hell did all these scouts not notice this guy??" .. I still remember the days that I used to curse JVG for keeping Howard in the game and playing Chuck limited minutes, and I couldn't describe my joy when JVG finally gave it up and moved Chuck to the starting lineup.. call me a homer, but Chuck Hayes is solely responsible for at least 20 wins over the past 2 seasons.. yes, he made pivotal plays down the stretch that completely changed the outcome of the game.. do y'all remember the last-second charge he took from Boozer in the Utah series?? do y'all remember the offensive rebound he pulled own against the wizards (could be mistaken though) that sealed the game for us?? and how can we forget the block against 6'9 Durant a couple of days ago that saved the game for us.. I am just wondering what the hell happened to his offensive game.. The guys used to be money around the basket.. I remember regarding him as the only Rocket who can catch a bullet pass from Tmac and finish it effectively.. I loved his little floater from 5 feet that he consistently hit against taller guys.. I loved his rebounding ability and I think was a huge reason for Yao's development last season (Yao had more confidence when shooting because Chuck was always down there waiting to clean up the boards, and defenders couldn't jump on Yao because Chuck was in a great position under the basket waiting for a pass from Yao to finish the easy layup).. is it Adelman not utilizing him correctly? is it Mac's injury that limited his role because 90% of his baskets were Tmac pick n' rolls? is it a slump that he will eventually get out of? is it a lack of focus on his part? (it can't be a lack of effort because we all know who Chuck is) is it a negative reaction to the competition for the PF position? or is it just that JVG knew how to get the most out of him, and Chuck just isn't that good?? it's really hard watching him being a Ryan Bowen out there.. I want the old strong Chuck Wagon back...
