i would agree...i will say that the sonics during the playoffs in 96 played some of the best basketball (outside of the NBA Finals) that I have ever seen any basketball team ever play. Their three-point percentages against us were ridiculous, if I remember right. Plus they were sold out on the defensive end...a really well-balanced team.

Yeah Kemp took a big dive from 19.6 and 11 rebs to 18.7 and 10rebs, he definitley fell off the map.

Hakeem needed help on the boards and Clyde was really slowing up with the injuries and age. Chucky Brown was not going to get it for you in the West. Utah beat us and we did lose a matchup beacuse we played Elie at the 3 and basically Clyde was being played by Russell a matchup in which he still should have dominated but didn't. Age caught up with us as well as injuries, but without Barkley, we wouldn't have won as many games as we did and we wouldn't have beaten Seattle either. I remember Cassell playing against Payton and didn't fair any better than Kenny Smith did.

It would of been nice to see the same 94-95 Rocket Playoff calibur type of team get in a rivalry with the Jordans Bulls in the finals. Hakeem and Clyde vs MJ and Pippen would of been classic.

    Year later.......chemistry, age....who knows.

By the way, when John Stockton hit the 3 pointer in game 6, wasn't Karl Malone putting Drexler in a Bear Hug...errr...solid pick?
Not too sure.....correct me if I'm wrong.
Anyway, one thing I remember about that game is the celebrating the Rockets were doing towards the end of the third quarter........I just had that feeling that we were going to lose that game. Does anyone else get that feeling when a team celebrates too early......in your head you just think, "I might as well turn it off now 'cause they're just going to start playing horrible or the other team is just going to go on a serious run to win the game".

Besides, they would have wanted no part of 23......especially a 23 that had played an entire season and is coming off a championship.

I guess the bulls were ready for 34 right? Horse $#it.

It's not like they did anything to The Rocks in the regular season. You can say the regular season doesn't count because teams turn it up in the post-season, but the two teams would cancel each other out because the one thing no one can deny is that The Rockets were the epitomy of clutch.

I wish those two would've met in the finals. I bet it would have been a HUGE rude awakening to most of the world.

Game 7 NBA Finals, Bulls down by one with 12 seconds on the clock. Jordan drives, stops, pulls up, loses Drexler, shoots for the win.............BLOCKED BY OLAJUWON!!! ROCKETS WIN! ROCKETS WIN!

I had almost forgotten how good Hakeem was. I'm getting all teary-eyed. Message to Dream...Retire now! You're ruining a brilliant career as a bench warmer.

I think the Barkley trade was a bad one. I like Chuck and he is so freakin' cool, but imagine if we had kept the team we had. Even though Dream and Clyde were getting older, Sam I am would have stepped up and Horry would have been a better SF with us because we wouldn't have made him gain weight and try and play PF. The best part would be before the 99 season when we were trying to decide who we wanted, Pip or Dice. With Horry already playing the 3, we could have had Dice and set up a nice team for the future. Sam I am, Cat and DICKerson, Horry, Dice, Dream. Dream would retire as a Rocket, and we get the Cap space to sign the best free agent out there for the 2002 season, or wait til 2003 and sign Duncan to play center. Obviously, we probably wouldn't have gotten Francis, but we wouldn't care if he had never been a Rocket at all.

The Barkley trade was a good one. One Malone bear hug and one Barkley arm injury kept us from winning two more championships. Getting Quitten instead of McDyess was a bad move, but Dice and Chuck could have played together.

95/96 -- swept out of second round by the Sonics...the Sonics beat the ever living dog crap out of us..robert horry walks up court during game 4 and pronounces "we'll get 'em next year" before tip off of game 4

summer of 96 -- rockets make trade for Barkley in an effort to beat the team that beat them

96/97 -- rockets beat sonics...rockets advance to game 6 of the WCF (for only the 5th time in the history of the franchise).

seems to me the Barkley trade worked out just fine. not every team can win the championship every year...no one is entitled to a three-peat...they're quite rare.
