Ouch, that's harsh lol Come on we haven't done anything close to being bad like the oilers. This team starts bad and finish strong, so it doesn't give u false hope like some teams,
I have been watching them since moving to Houston in 1977. So, I have seen much worse during the year after Moses moved to Philadelphia and we end up with the first and third pick in the draft. So loyalty is one of the reason that I still come back for more. But the main reason that I keep watching is hope. I hope the next time I watch them, I will see some improvement. And one day I hope that they will bring us another championship banners. Like everything in life, hope is the main drive that allowed us to continue on.
When they win we cheer and give props when they lose we wanna kick pillows or in my case throw that nasty popcorn they sell at the Compaq center.. But one thing remains, I am still a Rockets fan even if they lose or win because I always say "next game we will come out better" The problem is Rockets have not had a streak all year to build on. I say on Sunday we Kickass first and take names later!
I can't agree with your post anymore.. Even when you read this board, during a game.. people just swing with emotions.. go read the thread about the wizards game.. it starts out positive, and then as the game goes on, all negative.. CAT is this, STEVE is that.. blah blah, and as soon as someone makes a shot, like the big three that CAT made at the end of regulation... the bandwagoning starts.. and then you read the end of the games, posts and its back to negativity. I think fans will stick with their team regardless! Go Rockets!
BINGO...You get more gratification(sp?) if you get to watch them make mistakes and grow. Most here just think that we should just click as a team in our first year together. Yao-first year. Griffin-first year starting/ didn't get to play with Francis much last year. Posey- first half season here. Mobley- had to be the man last year(F-) when Steve went down. Franchise- has never played any lenghty time with any of our starters with the exception of Mobley. Zone was illegal last time they had an entire season together, and actually effective. And people wonder why we don't have chemistry.
Here is the reason I keep watching... Les Alexander wants to win. He is a good owner, lets CD do his job. Not afraid to make blockbuster trades. Willing to bring in Free Agents. If an owner doesn't have a desire to win, (you reading Donald Sterling?) I wouldn't waste minutes of my life following that team because you know that team can't keep their star players. I honestly believe anyone who follows the Clippers religiously is wasting their life.
Your sinature should be "Yes I'm a bandwagon fan and proud of it." People like you are the reason houston fans have such a bad reputation.
Gotta agree with you here. I suffer through every game of every season so that when we finally win....it feels all the better. I know this because I have rooted for Oilers/Rockets/Astros all these years. When the Rockets won I was weeping. Vindication was finally mine!!
I guess I'm a glutton for punishment. I'm an older version of the fan in the commercial that throws the towel, mutteringly turns off the tv, walks away, but then comes back, turns on the tv and apologizes to the tv! Besides you can't appreciate the peaks without experiencing the valleys. I get frustrated watching the Rockets, knowing that a tweek here or a tweek there will put then over the top. However, we're still in the painful evaulation process. This year is like watching your kids grow up. You know what they're capable of, but they just can't quite get it done yet! Besides, I'm a transplanted Cubs fan!! Believe me, this Rockets season is a walk- in-the-park compaired to 1969: when my best friend was a Mets fan!!!
I watch the Rockets, because it is fun. I don't have friends that I have to show up or be shown up. I don't care if people laugh at my team. I don't care what Fran, Walton, Sports 610's anti-Rudy crowd, the Mad Yao Disease crowd or Clutch's Cut Cuttino's Slack crowd says to add annoyances to our fun. I keep watching because it is fun. I am amazed when people get so mad. I don't understand it. It is a sport. It is fun. You stop having fun, and you should retire as a fan just like the pros do. Sports are fun. Winning is a reward, not a necessity to having fun.
to put it in 3 words i'm a homer been a houston fan since i can remember.... i didnt think there was anyhthing else out there to be other than a houston fan.... and you know what i cant imagine being anything else other than my houston teams. oh and another 2 words i believe
I keep watching because there's a chance. I'll be honest, I could barely watch the last two months of the season last year, however, I could see me watching until the end this year regardless of playoff chances just to see the development of Yao.
I watch because I was born in Houston in '85 and lived there for 5 years. The Rockets have always been my tie back to the city that I love, along with the many visits I've made back. Watching the Dream was my way of remembering where I came from. Also sports remind us of what's still good in the world, even with all the fights, thugs, and rappers we have in the NBA, it's still about a group of people coming together for a common goal, growing together through the good and the bad, and trying to achieve that goal.
It's a more enjoyable experience if you watch your team develop and mature, and eventually they come away with a championship. Not a single championship is won easily. It takes a lot of effort by the organization (GMs, coaches), the players improving and gelling. Just look at the Lakers several years ago and now. You know the Rox is going to be great couple years down the road.
I watch because it is fun, and exciting (and at times frustrating). I is a nice finish to my day. I am a die hard fan. I love this team. I could careless what other people think of the team. If they want to diss it by saying how crappy the Rockets are, there will be a big argument with me supporting my Rocks. I dont like one player on the team more than another. I like Cat, Stevie, and Yao all the same. All of them are stars. I even Yell my support to Hawk...at my tv! Rock fan for life. It is so much fun to watch, a perfect conclusion to my day.
After reading this thread,I have concluded one thing, we bash cause we care. For me personally, I started watching the Rockets with around 15 games left in the 1991-92 season. I was hooked immediatly because of the amount of basketball I played, and the fact that the Rockets were in the playoff hunt. I feel proud that I been able to follow the Rockets during these down times. I wasn't sure if I could do it. But I did. And doing so makes the two championships even more valuable to me. Following the Rockets hardcore during this lottery phase, I think, validates me as a true Rockets fan, and not a bandwagoner. That's makes me feel great. I wonder if anyone else feels this way?
Loved the Rockets since 87 when I was 8. First game I saw at the Summit was pre season game against the Bucks when they had Terry Cummings. Had court side seats, fell in love with them that night, and have followed them through their ups and downs. That series against the Suns was also one of the best memory. GO ROCKETS!!!
