Great Talent... just was a mental case.

Had season tix one year and every game he played good there was a celeb in the front row seats... other wise when you watched him in person you could just tell he thought he was the **** and played sooooo lazy. I remember watching the bench during time outs etc.. wondering why no one talked to him- this was before any of the drama- He was one of those guys who was so private i guess... he sat in that high-chair like a king.. it is that mentality that i started to hate.

I do wish he comes back one day to prove everyone wrong because nothing was more satisfying than watching him play good. 13 in 33 was just a miracle to watch.

This sums up McGrady! Can't say I hate the guy, but I hate his diva-ness and lack of hustle.

Are people seriously trying to argue about how much devotion former Rockets have to certain causes?

    Really?

This guy nailed it. Main reason is because he is a QUITTER. He quit in Orlando and in H-Town. He whined and pouted his way to the end of the bench and on Adelman's last nerve by taking a backseat to YOUNGER PLAYERS. It's not like we forced him out of Houston, he forced himself out by holding the franchise hostage and demanding playing time.

Thank God for DM and his wizardly ways for getting rid of this chump and getting what he did for him. In hindsight, the cap room we would have gotten didn't matter because we didn't land a Max FA so it was beautiful.

Also, I think I can speak for some ROX fans when I say it's not that we hated him when he was PLAYING for us. He was an amazing talent and gave us great years, even without making to the 2nd round. We just hate the guy for the way he handled his final days as a Rocket.

Good Riddance and let's stop talking about him already.

Let's start a thread about how much we are looking forward to K-Mart and AB in the backcourt and not some washed-up-has-been.

I posted this in the "How Will You Remember McGrady Thread" that popped up post trade deadline last year. The sentiment is the same and can equally apply to this thread as well. Hate? A little strong, but I don't particularly care for him, and I am glad if he (and this seems like a bigger 'if' every day) can actually find a team interested in his services that it will be in a city other than Houston.

I suppose if i hadn't lived in several cities on 3 continents i'd probably dislike him more for what he did, but I can sort of understand where he's coming from, it just seems very foreign to the culture in Texas.

True, quitting is accepted all over the world, just not in Texas.

In France it is the national past time.

The only reason people have to hate him is conjecture about what may or may not have happened between him and the team the last couple years. There's no good reason to hate him. Just about all objective evidence points to the fact that he wanted to play for us, and he wanted to play better... but he just couldn't.

I don't like players who make excuses for poor play that hasn't even happened yet. Players that have made lowering expectations an art form.

That is the scary part. People were on discussing someone who is not on the team anymore and fighting about their love or hatred of him. RIP. McGrady if you love him or McLady if you hate him is no longer a Rocket. Find a new subject that is fresh or relevant to the actual Rockets. It is time to come out of the past and step up to the Big Boy Potty and join the 2010-2011 Rockets discussions!!

One of McGrady's problems was that he seemed (seems) socially inept. He never learned much about handing himself before jumping into the pro ranks because he was so young when he made the move. His body and athleticism (and athletic mindset) were there early on, but his social brain was not, and he was never adequately prepared mentally and socially for pro (or adult) life.

I think he would have greatly benefited from going to college for at least a couple of years (preferably three or four) and getting not only a bit of education and socialization beyond high school, but also getting adequate life and basketball preparation from a good coach, a good program, and a good school.

Not ALL pro players need that (although most, I think, do need it)...but I can't help but think McGrady was the kind of guy who would have benefited from an environment where he had to learn discipline and appropriate social interaction rather than going straight from young prodigy athlete to millionaire pro athlete with no real learning in between.

It's also possible that the "go to school" and "play basketball at the university level" approaches would not have helped him at all. Oftentimes nature does indeed overpower nurture, but most times what people develop into as adults is a combination of both.

Again, I don't dislike McGrady or think he's a bad guy. He was one of the best and most natural athletes I've ever watched. He also seems to be a very nice guy on certain levels (although certainly egotistical). But I do view him as somewhat ignorant in terms of social behavior and lacking in many common social graces, aspects of his makeup that probably play a large part in many of his perceived failings and missteps.

McGrady always played well when healthy, the only problem was he couldn't stay healthy.

He played so poorly in that 1 game against the Raptors you could say he was point-shaving and playing bad intentionally.

    I don't hate T-mac
No one can doubt his talent of basketball, the union of two consecutive scoring, six years "all-star contest" ,creating a 35 seconds of 13 points in time... Yes, it was true! Not imagination. How many times do we cheer for the "mm" form? Exciting?
Objectively, now he couldn't play the game like the past. Damn the injury!
And this is the business. On its merits, the trade of T-mac for Martin is true.
At an angle of rocket, it is true for the champion. As a normal fans of rocket, the time I only could say is "thanks for your charming, you will brand everything on my mind, wish you find the next team soon and fulfil your dream".

Well see he's not the player that he use to be
He missed a flat out open court dunk and he blamed his injured knee
