i really started watching the rockets in the 06-07 season...and one thing i really wanted to see our midrange game drastically improve...juwan howard couldnt get it done when he got open...and getting scola was key to that...we've somewhat mastered play on both sides of the court with the addition of luis...
wait, so if he knew how to dunk the ball, he wouldn't miss all those layups he gets? quick, somebody send luis scola this link ASAP! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Slam_dunk the rockets coaching staff should be ashamed for not teaching their players how to dunk the ball!
I like Scola a lot and think he is a good complement to Yao. My only knock against him is that he makes scoring harder than it needs to be. Many times he has an open shot, but for some reason puts the ball on the floor and tries to fake out his opponent. Sometimes he is very close to the basket with no one within 3 feet of him when he does it. Matt Bullard noticed this too and said that he does it because he is a rhythm player. That said, his hustle plays makes up for any negativity that one might find.
look at this mix. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SlNUEGGHS44 I'm impressed that during a fast break, he is always up ahead of the others. his hustles plus his mid range jumper is a good addition

All the Scola bashers are a whole bunch of r****ds, who the hell are yo to bash Scola. He gives his heart and guts every time he goes out there. He is in my opinion the heart of this team.
He is used to being the main player on the the team and not recieving 100 mile an hour fast balls that come at him, and has trouble setting himself after catching those fast balls. Name one player who has not been missing easy layups, Hayes head Landry Brooks Yao, any players that recieve those lazers from mcgrady are gonna have a hard time catching and setting themselves for the lay up.
What's the highest level of hoops have you played if I may ask? If u played, u would know core stregnth helps u game big time. Jordan and pippen had the breakfast club. What they would do is a very intense weight lifting routine in the mornings before games. This kept ther bodies strong for the 82 game grind. I'm not with scola in the offseason, but I can't tell you he probably doesn't hit the weight room like he should.
I love Scola. People who say he needs to learn how to dunk... Well guess what. I dunk and a layup are only 2 pts. Get over it, Scola isnt flashy.
I just wish he would spin back left some time...it is wide open...but I love the guy...absolutely love him...he should be getting more minutes. DD
Couple things to consider. 1. Scola's game, not his athleticism, doesn't allow him to dunk most of the time. He goes around and up and under people. When he's coming under someone fully extended...you want him to dunk? He'd have to reset to get his feet under him to then go up, wasting energy. Not to mention in that time his defender would reset and all of Scola's moves would be negated. So you say change the game so he can finish with a dunk? You want a guy who's been playing pro for like 8 years (no idea) to completely change his game to do something he's not typically athletic enough to do a lot anyways? Bad idea. 2. And this is more important. He shot 10-21! THAT'S 47.6%! And you're complaining!?!?!? The guy is pure hustle and grit. Sure he may miss one every now and then, but he also runs the floor every time and gets us countless offensive boards. Crazy stinking Clutchfans. This is a new one. Bashing a guy who put up 23 and 10 on 47% shooting. That's nuts.
At whose expense? Hayes only plays when when we need defense for short stretches. Landry is pretty much just as effective as Scola. Well he doesn't run the fast break the same way, but still having an in your face slammer like Landry is good to beat up on the other team. Plus he's developed a few tricks too. Last year he was just a dunker, now he OCCAISIONALLY dribbles the ball I really like the way minutes are going around right now. We just need to get the second unit going again like they were earlier in the eyar. On the going left thing. He had this one possession where he had it and because of position I though, "ok, surely he'll go left, he'd have to work all the way in the opposite direction making a 270 degree turn and spin around the player to go right" sure enough, he did just that. I don't remember the outcome, I was too busy shaking my wondering how a guy who goes right one million percent of the time is so effective. Love him to death.
Scola is the epitome of rugged, relentless play and hustle and for the guys can't appreciate his style of play and want him to dunk more often buy him a pair of jumpsoles. Scola is arguably the only argentine who doesn't flop like fellow countrymen and he plays with passion and energy. There are many guys who can dunk the ball with ease but don't have the same level of energy and basketball knowledge like Scola.
I think it's easy to take Scola for granted sometimes. The guy has played at a high level soon after he joined the Rockets, and I think we sometimes forget that this is only his second season in the NBA. Of course, the guy's not perfect. His big problems IMO are his defensive lapses and his tendency to foul in bunches. I've seen several games where Scola watched from the bench because he couldn't stop fouling. But at the same time, he seems to have gotten better about fouls compared to last season. One thing I'd like to see is better frontcourt chemistry between Scola and Yao. It's not bad, but I think Scola is used to playing alpha dog - that is, the main frontcourt player - throughout his career, and he's had to learn how to play the complementary role to Yao. So far, Scola's done a great job making this adjustment, but I still see it as a work-in-progress. I think they can work better defensively together. They just don't seem to play defense as a cohesive frontcourt unit, something I think they'll need to do if they want to make a playoff run. I'm probably just spoiled after watching years of Van Gundy defense, but Scola could have used a few seasons under JVG. I also think Scola could be better integrated into the offense, especially when he's out there with the second unit. When Yao is out, the Rockets rely too much on the perimeter players and forget that Scola can be pretty effective in the post himself. I'm not saying post up Scola for every play, like we do with Yao, but enough to have some inside presence.
Wow, I didn't know there are Scola bashers. Scola is a terrific player. But I don't understand why he's being so damn tame in the NBA. The guy need to bring his International attitude to the NBA.
