You're reading my mind. I've expressed a similar opinion a few times but when I realized that most people don't care much, I just let it go. The jerseys make our players look like Power Rangers. If aliens exist and they play basketball, they probably wear jerseys like our's on their planet.
I never understood the logic behind changing your jersey drastically after winning a NBA Championship. Call me supersticious, but I would never do such a thing after winning back to back titles.. The fabric and cut's of these current jersey's are hideous, I agree that simple is better... Teams like the Bulls, Celtics, and even the Spurs have kept the 90's cut, which IMO look the best.
Yeah, the Rockets need to take a page out of the Sixer's book, and go back to their old logo and color scheme.
Well, the ketchup and mustard didn't sell outside of Houston, even in the wake of the championships. Those unis, colors, and logo hold a certain nostalgic value to us, but nobody else really thought highly of them. I'm sure Les expected to reap huge rewards in merchandise sales after back to back titles, but it didn't happen and that was the motivation to change the logo, colors, and unis to something more marketable. Unfortunately, he went with the smiling dildo.
Well, the joke is on the Rockets because they decided to go away from the red and yellow jersey's just before the fad of throwback's and classic bright colors EXPLODED. Those jerseys would be much more popular today then they were in the early 90's. Rockets literally changed something that was about to blow up in terms of popularity and aesthetic appeal. And, the saddest part: they changed something that would have taken off in exchange for the crappiest options in the NBA. Les has done many things well, but his uniform decisions have been a tremendous FAIL.
If they never changed them, they wouldn't be throwbacks. It's the retro thing that makes them popular. If you never change them, then they don't really look retro, therefore no boost in appeal. The rainbow Astros unis are notorious for being hideous. But it's also that notoriety that made them popular again 20 years later. If the had never changed, they wouldn't be as popular, just ugly.
all NBA teams will have new fabric and cut this year (similar to the 2010 all star unis) so lets wait for those and then we will see
I honestly think they are the worst jerseys EVER. In all of professional sports. It's why I've never bought one. Looks like something little kids put together with shiny fabric. The cut is absolutely terrible, look how the jersey crumples up in the side and shoulders. Very bland, and the shiny material sucks. They have no 'flow'. Here is a jersey that has 'flow'. Spoiler FFFFFFUUUUUUU
Having these as the permanent aways and making a white home version would be a HUGE improvement. HUGE. Everything about the current ones are wrong. Just a bad idea that needs to be fixed. How they haven't already is beyond me.
What you're thinking can't be worse than what I was thinking... Spoiler This similarity has been posted from another thread before and this did not originate from me. I was just surprised that no one posted this yet. The other thread had great ideas for our should-be new jerseys. I'm too lazy to search for it
simple & clean. not too much "mustard" to where it become obnoxious. i agree with everybody who does not like the cut of the shoulders. that's the main reason i choose not to where the newer jerseys at rockets games.
