Hmmm. I think the initial criticsm and doubts from writers and journalists are understandable. Let's face it, America is more skeptical about who: A high school kid or a Chinese import?

What credit doesnt he deserve? He is the SECOND best center in the league. NOONE puts him pass Shaq RIGHT NOW. NOONE. They say he WILL BE #1 AFTER Shaq is GONE. They're not even talking about an older Shaq, but when Shaq is GONE. When they do talk about Yao being better, they only talk about a few specific games when Yao did play a better overrall game than Shaq.

I dont see people giving Yao any credit for things he doesn't deserve. Frankly, the fact that he was snobbed the RoY honor by..who? Amare Soudamare?? is good enough to show that He is NOT getting the credit he deserves.

Whoa, Jediknight those are some harsh words. I thought we were past the point of when Yao first came into the league and was trashed by so called basketball experts like Dick Vitale who said he could never cut it in the NBA. Dude, he's been to 2 all-star games, averaged a near double-double in his first two seasons and even gained the respect of his arch rival Shaq, who thinks Yao is the real deal. Yao's nice guy image is going to make him megabucks in product endorsements, contrary to what you think that nobody cares what your decency quotient is if you are an NBA player, it does matter. Remember what happened to Kobe, you don't see him doing Sprite and McD commercials anymore do you. As far as Yao being a leader on this team, he will lead when he think he deserves to lead. Right now Yao's mindset is that he is still learning the NBA game, the english language etc. when he has done all those things he will become more of a leader.

    Here's my 2 cents:

    - Most posters here love Yao.

    - There's no reason to hate Yao.

    - It's OK to criticize any player because that's what fans do. (Because we care)

    - It's not OK to call any player names because they have a bad game or whatever. (p***y, Wimp, etc)

    - Yao has exceed my expectation so far, and he'll have a breakout season this year. Count on it. Don't let just some preseason games fool you.

This board is filled with 'just give me something to point my anger at' people. Most boards are. These same people killed jesus. They'll never be happy until someone picks them up and covers them with chocolate. That's life. Just shut up smile.:)

    You spoke out my thoughts!:)

Someone wonders why Yao don't want to be a leader in Rockets, just as he has done in Olympics with his National Team. As Tiger said, Yao is the best player in CNT, far better than his teammates, which gives him the courage to be a leader. And some of your guys just don't understand Yao. Go to find the book of Yao and have a good read, and you will know he has all the hearts and guts to lead a team. At the meantime, as we all know, TMac is better than Yao. Give him 2 more years, you won't be dissapointed ;)
