Why do some people assume we will be out in first round again?

Don't feel bad. Those past events aren't unrelated.

We saw how James played Portland last season. If he loses another first round series are fans going to turn on him like they did McGrady?

Also, when you get amped up for the playoffs and lose in such heartbreaking fashion year over year, it's like getting punched in the gut and then asking for it again. I'm just not that stubborn. Now I'm very cautious.

Because we only got one playmaker in James and we rely too much on him. Dwight is supposed to be our second option but he is not 100% now. Opponents will play lockdown defense on the Beard in the playoffs therefore Dwight and other Rockets have to step up instead of turning the ball over or taking bad shots. Go Rockets!

For me, the only doubts I have are because of:
    - recent play-off history
    - strategy (3 pointers and FTs, both we shoot at a low percentage)
    - McHale's ability to adjust

It's more fear than anything else.

3 pointer percentage is fine. The Rockets shoot a lot more 3 pointers at 34.8% beyond the arc, which translates to >52% two point shots. When you consider more offensive rebound may have resulted from missed 3 pointers, it's not bad at all.

FT is a BIG issue. Howard, DMo, Jones, Josh Smith, Dorsey (barely plays).

I vote for avoiding San Antonio at all costs. If we win tonight, we should keep going for #2. If we lose, let San Antonio beat us in the 2 games next week. We'll get swept with Terry/Prigioni on Tony Parker and Kawhi Leonard guarding our only playmaker. Howard and Smith will be free throw liabilities regardless of who we play, but Popovich will foul if we go up by more than 3.

God dammit we needed another playmaker. 5 different quality PGs change teams and we get a 38 year old. What exactly is our problem keeping Aaron Brooks on the roster? Plays for the minimum, not a locker room problem, shoots 40% from 3, and I realize he's not 26 anymore, but he started for the team that nearly took out the eventual champion Lakers.

Sigh. We're not going to win a championship, let's try to get a rematch with Portland.

    Slow down there buddy..

It's one thing to be negative as in peronally attacking other posters & another thing simply disagreeing w/ popular opinion. Popular opinion here is Daryl Morey is the best thing since Hakeem Olajuwon and we should be lucky to have a GM as brilliant & supremely intelligent as Daryl Morey. The simple fact we have Harden outweighs any playoff success we haven't achieved. Myself & a few others tend to disagree with that. If it came down to having zero superstars but WCF finals appearances ever year I'd take it over having a superstar and continuous 1st round exits. Getting a superstar is only half of the job as GM. Building a consistent contender is the other. Others feel like Morey's job is done here and we've already achieved greatness. I don't see it that way

Given our recent history yes I am cautious this could be another first round exit but Harden and Howard are in the same page for probably the first time since Dwight got here. Just wait on the playoffs, doesnt #2 #3 or #4 check on it.

Its not about being pessimistic and not enjoying the rockets, why the **** do you think most of us watch the games religiously and have been posting here for so many years? We are passionate, but at the same time realistic. Flaming out in the 1st hasn't stopped me all these years and never will, I'll always root for the rockets just as hard. Doesn't mean I have to drink the koolaid .

Some people expect all of us to hold hands and share the same view. If you don't think the way that they do, they try and label you.

Most of the labeling I see on here is calling anyone who disagrees with the "fire DM" and the "McFail is a flaming idiot" crowd a "homie'.

I don't agree that DM should be fired....yet... and I sure don't agree with calling our coach who is a HOF, top 50 player, and recognized by his peers as one of the toughest players to ever play the game McFail, milkhair, etc.

He deserves some respect and if feeling that way makes you and others label me as a "homie", then have at it.

Because history repeats itself. Only a question of whether it's first round exits or multiple championships. The Spurs do the championships thing. The Rockets do the first round exit thing, as painful as that is. But this could be the year of Clutchcity reborn. Let's wait and see.

Most of the labeling I see is the "optimists" referring to those who don't share their views as sad, pathetic, and miserable.

If the type of labeling you're referring to above bothers you, by the same token, you should also disagree with the rampant homerism that says the Rockets are going to win the championship even though they haven't made a deep playoff run in forever, the blind support for Maury best exemplified by the phrase "In Maury We Trust", and the thread that claimed the Rockets' coach should be COY.

But it seems you have an acute case of selective outrage.

No, you are the only poster I have seen that cries about labels while at the same time labels the coach of the Rockets as "McFail".

You claim to make objective analysis. Tell me what is "objective" about "McFail"?

Because we're a cynical fanbase here in Houston. Houston sports has been in a lull lately. We hope for the best but expect the worst. I mean literally the worst case single event that could happen to a basketball team in a playoffs (game winning and playoff eliminating shot) happened.

Why do some people assume that those who are not optimistic about our playoffs chances must be miserable fans?

The Texans and the Rockets have always let me down every year. I guess assuming we get out in the first will hurt a little less if we do.
