Just throwing up possibilities. Because obviously we cant just outright sign Love. No way in hell we're giving up half our starting lineup for that guy.

He'd be excellent next to Asik....

It'd be the twin towers redone!!! One tower would be 100%Offense / the other would be 100% Defense....

Asik plays good enough offense and Love plays good enough Defense not to render either one a liability on the other end of the court.

We're only the 7th best offense in the league. Love can improve us on that end.

They want a power forward that can block a couple of shots per game even though he shoots 44% from the field, 53% from the freethrow line, and turns the ball almost over 3 times a game. J-Smoove for max contract!

Can you tell me who that guy is? Because I'm pretty sure Charles Oakley retired a long time ago. Kevin Garnett might be the only guy I can even think of who even starts to fit that description in today's NBA.

Agreed! Having a good shot blocker in the paint can somewhat deter the opponent's PG from driving to the basket. I noticed a lot of times when an opponent PG drives past Harden or Lin, no one comes to help, resulting an easy layup.

Josh is a great one on one defender and I think he can give the forwards of our western rivals a hard time to score in the playoffs.

We already have enough offensive talents on our team...what we need is a defensive PF to help Asik when he's not on the floor.

But then again, PPat and Greg Smith might develop into complete players on both ends of the floor, so I would prefer to keep the team as it is. Please give Greg Smith more minutes!

What's with people wishing for role player types for ou PF position? Did the Rockets get Dwight Howard while I wasnt paying attention? The sentiment here seems to be that we're already awesome, and need someone to make the team complete. When really, this eam is still one star, from even being in the conversation for contention.

Because he can help improve our half court offense tremendously? He spaces the floor, can score well in the paint, good passer, demands double team. This offense won't be nearly as effective in the playoffs. And he would probably give a lot more effort on defense if he were in a playoff game as opposed to a regular season game.

Another brilliant clutchfans thread! Why would we want a 24 year old PF who gets 15 rebounds per game?!

If given the choice of signing Smith in the offseason to a big contract, or trading half the roster for Love, I would take Love without hesitation. That said, Josh Smith does have room for improvement. He's been shooting the 3 ball this year fairly well. 37%. Even if that's a bit of an aberration, and it goes down to maybe 33-34%, that's still "good enough" for floor spacing purposes. McHale and our coaches have done an excellent, excellent job at disciplining every player to almost always take the jumpshot behind the line. If you turn Smith's 20 footers into 3s, his overall production can easily improve.

In all other aspect of his game, Josh Smith is an absolute perfect fit for the Rockets. Every advanced metrics has Smith as a premier defender. +/-, defensive win shares, opponent PER(both as SF and as PF), defensive ratings, etc. He's also a great finisher at the basket and has a decent but underutilized post game.

I was a huge opponent of Josh Smith trade, but his ability to not suck at 3s is changing my mind.

Um, a 4 that can block shots? ermm how often does lebron james and dwyane wade get blocked exactly? The matchup in their small ball lineup is Bosh, I'd take Love over Asik on Bosh every day and twice on sunday.

Bosh is quite a good 16-23 foot shooter (this year he's shooting 59%...), Asik never goes out that far (see our Atlanta game), Asik's hands also aren't anywhere near as sure with the ball as Love, Miami swipes it a lot and the refs have a tendency to miss calls a bit on those guys....

What if we we have to give up Asik in a trade for love. What do u guys think of love playing C for us. Only downfall I see for that is defensively. But then of we can squeeze in smith in the offseason that would help that out.

Would do this in a heartbeat. Asik is having a career year, but his rebounding and defensive presence is all replaceable.

But no, you wouldn't actually slot Kevin Love at center in that scenario. When you get a player like Kevin Love, you move other players around HIM and put him at the position he finds most comfortable, not the other way around.

The Rockets would probably rather start Greg Smith or Patrick Patterson at center and then slot Love there only in small on small lineups.

Morey would give up any one not named James Harden to acquire Kevin Love. He is the exact type of player Morey has wanted at the 4.. A stretch 4 with range, runs the floor and rebounds.

With Asik in the middle, it would be nice to have a PF that could spread the floor and is a constant threat from 3. Love is also an excellent rebounder. Our current PFs can kind of shoot but are a little undersized. Love is a legit 6' 10".

Love injury prone and shooting very poorly , plays no defense, plays below the rim, bad attitude and will make our interior defense even worse. Are any of u watching twolves games this year ? We will play fast and smith fits the teams style easily. Love rebound nunbers will PLUMMET next to asik so his broken jumper will be all he was. 2 years until he is avail by then lakers or a contending team will have him. O well glad morey won't rape our team to much

    Haha prefer who you want
We are beggars.... we won't know 100 percent who fits here until that guy is here actually

I prefer TJones until we get someone with a reasonable contract

He can but dude can't even guard a garbage can.

    Al Jefferson

    On/off floor MIN DefRtg
    On floor 1,046 108.1
    Off floor 553 97.6
    Diff. +10.5

Dude is even worse than Boozer.

    Boozer

    On/off floor MIN DefRtg
    On floor 900 102.0
    Off floor 545 92.3
    Diff. +9.7

Jazz are actually better without Jefferson on the floor.
