Why do people think we will be bad this year if we don't trade for Howard/Bynum?

Royce White and Terrence Jones don't have high upside?

If thats the case, Martin should be excited.
He's going to get to be the man.

Sorry OP but your overvaluing guys based on their summer league performance. 5 games against D leaguers doesn't show you enough to say these rookies would be able to almost make the playoffs..or be a borderline team. You need to ease up on that talk. Your overvaluing Patterson as well. Parsons cant score regularly. Lin cant play D. Lamb will be locked down by every team in our division. If you thought watching DMO disappear in a D-league game with a bigger 5 on the floor was disappointing wait till Duncan, Dirk, or Anthony Davis do it. Thats just in division. Not even talking about the Gasols, Bynum, D12, Garnett,Lopez's, Love...etc and that's not to mention most of the 5's and oversized 4's that are not Allstars that are infinitely better than the wizards D league big men that shut him down.

It's fun to say we are mediocre but that doesn't make it true. We should get a lot better as the season goes but we are now looking at 10 and likely higher as a lottery team unless Dwight or Bynum comes to town.

I think the OP may have Rockets colored glasses on...any team with Martin and Lin as your scorers will be lucky win 30 games. That is not a knock on them, but a recognition that we will lose a ton of games in the last 5 minutes while these rookies find their way.

I think a pick in the 6-10 range is most likely. They will probably start clicking around January and get to 26-30 wins. Hopefully Toronto will be even worse.

All this talk, with no mention of Royce White?

    1 star thread...

Not particularly, unless you consider "starting caliber" high upside. I don't see either of them ever becoming all-stars.

So you want to encourage these kids, who just went 4-1 in LV to lose? How many draft picks before you tell your team to start winning again? By then losing is the norm. You always try to win every game.... Even with the young team.

so you think that the Wizards or the Bobcats have been telling their rookies to lose all this time?
    Tanking =/= telling to lose.

Why do people think we will automatically be contenders if we trade for Dwight? He may never be the same player after back surgery and could easily leave us after one season.

Let's just cut to the chase OP...How many wins will:

Camby + Scola + Lowry + Goran + Dalembert + Lee + Budinger (and most likely Martin)

    give you over:

    Lin + Asik + White + Lamb + Jones + Douglas + Motiejunas + Livingston + Brockman

If you think those vets above are only 6 wins better than the crew below and you assume that all the lotto teams didn't get any better and assuming that those guys all stay healthy then we still have a top 10 pick. Personally I think losing all those vets are 10-12 wins less which puts you in the top 5-8 pick range. We might even get lucky with that many balls and land a top 3. And there is still bundling with all we have to take into account.

Losing out on Dwight (which I still think we'll get) and rolling with what we've got right now is not staying on the treadmill at all. We have had our firesale which is the first step to blowing this up and rebuilding. This crew will be fun to watch but you have to keep your expectations in check - they will be worse and Ls will come. At this stage of the process, the Ws and Ls is not what you should be focusing on, it's the development of the players. And if that is our focus, I still see a nice pick and maybe even star player in our future.

Pretty much have to agree with you. With Dwight we're the 21st pick, with our old crew we're the 14th pick, and with our youth movement we're probably the 6th pick.

Cause we traded or let go of our top 4 players: Dragic, Scola, Lee, Lowry
We let both of our point guards go for a guy who has only been good for 2 months. We also let both of our centers good for a guy who makes Kwame Brown look like the Dream, on offense. We have a relatively unproven coach. Why would anyone think we WOULD be good?

I trust Morey, he has chosen excellent draft picks, but we have more holes and uncertainties in the lineup now than we did just 1-2 months ago.

It could end up being a 45 win team, I think currently constructed that is a reasonable best case scenario. We have the inside defense, but none outside so I would expect Asik to be in a lot of foul trouble, not that that hurts since he is virtually invisible on offense. We have a lot of young players and what, 2 veterans? Martin and ughhh...

If we got Howard or Bynum (if healthy) we would have something that would make those pieces work. Right now we STILL don't have that star player who can make everything look like it fits.

Best case scenario 38 wins. Likely scenario 25 wins. Sorry but that lineup is so unproven. Asik and Lin would be playing backups on certain teams. And then they've filled out the roster with mediocre players or rookies. Come on. It's clearly a rebuilding year and the sooner we admit that, the better we can enjoy the season.

People don't appreciate what an awesome job maury does at selecting players that fit a specific role and play as a team. Asik,Patterson,Parsons is a prison lockdown. Lin and Martin are the weak links on defense, but we will no longer be out rebounded. And you mean to tell me Lamb off the bench cant give you at least 12 points?

I'll say it right now. We will have the same record as the knicks and nets and those guys play in the east.

**** I also don't believe Martin will be around, which means we get Bizzaro. Bizzaro is a top five player no matter how unstable he is emotionally.

    Geeeeeeez....

The team as it is constructed now, wont crack 30.

They will maybe be at around .500 at home--maybe

But on the road they probably only win in the single digits
