OH MY GOD. THAT WAS A JOKE. NOT AN INVITATION TO ARGUE ABOUT SOMETHING FROM 3 MONTHS AGO. DIE. DIE DIE DIE. SOMEONE HAND ME MY TUBE SOCK.
The other thing people are forgetting in the "didn't run enough" argument is that the team had more than one running back. Sure, Foster was the brilliant workhorse but Ward averaged 6.3 yards per carry last year. He had some big plays throughout the year and proved to be good enough to give Foster some rest. Even with the talent dropoff, the run game was still very effective. Offensive play calling was bad, offensive time management was bad, and first half offense was bad. The result was a good offense that put up great yardage totals (concentrated in the second half of games) and good scoring totals. Seems like it could have been great with proper coaching.
Just because you have problems with some aspects of our offense doesn't mean you think it's the key problem - or even a big one. But there were plenty of things about our offense that need to be corrected and maybe even a few of them would have added a few extra Ws. Regardless, I don't see anything wrong with discussing them, rather than going rainbows and sunshine and pretending that any area of this team is fine just the way it is. Inconsistency Bad decision making in key situations Poor use of personnel in certain games (Foster being the big example here) No clear #2 WR (extra painful with OD out) Just some things I'd like to clear up. I mean, come on...we were doing things like calling 4th down plays without knowing how many yards we needed for a first to close out games, for example. I've got no problem with pointing out that the offense had some issues as well.
I have a problem with those that say that the offense isn't good, basically calling matt a loser who can't perform in the clutch. These anti schaubians will come up with some lame theory that the other team just let their guard down and allowed schaub and company to comeback and take the lead. If that happened once or twice, I would buy their theory; but it happened all throughout the season. Maybe every team should allow the opposition to score 20 points on them, if it were that easy. In the NFL, you can't score tds on every possession. Many times, the texans would go drive down to score a field goal, 3 plays later the other team bombs our defensive back field, sending Kubiak into panic mode. "Jeepers, golly gosh. We are down 7 to 3. Abandon the Run!!!!" Point being, who cares when they score their points as long as they scored them and managed to take the lead. 8o yards in less than 50 seconds. Damn you Defense!! It still hurts. =( I still think that Kubiak's obsession with balance really screwed with the play calling. I miss football already. =(
