Especially considering that Pop is likely gone as well.

The Spurs may not be a favorite but from their reputation and coach they're just as much of a threat as any other team in the west. And it doesn't matter if the Grizzlies only avg 90pts per game. They play a defensive style like the Bulls and they are still a very good team. If you discount/discredit the Spurs you're a fool and any reputable NBA Player, former player, analyst, coach, GM, etc. with FAR MORE BASKETBALL KNOWLEDGE THAN YOU will also call you a fool.

Grizz suck. Extremely flawed team. Only advanced because of Westbrook injury. Tony allen is the Kendrick Perkins of Shooting Guards. He should never start for any team trying to win a championship

That's fine but I'm still going to take the opinion of people with more basketball knowledge than you over yours.

Why should I give them props???

2011----1 seed Spurs lose to 8th seed Grizz in round one
2012----1 seed Spurs lose to OKC (they were UP 2-0 and they had home court adv)
2013----Spurs lose gm 6 after being UP 5 PTS with 28 sec left!!! go on to lose gm 7 (and the title)

Spurs get a pass because they have 4 titles and thats fine. But they've choked wayyyyy too many times for me to pick them to come out of the West this yr

No one ever is sold on the Spurs. They have just been making laughing stock out of most preseason pundits for years. I personally am not going to bet against them this season. If I did I would be betting against Pop and that would be a losing proposition.

Spurs have a decade of playoff experience, they kept the same core together for 10+ years, Parker/Duncan/Ginobili because they know it works, and they have good ball movement. Parker and Duncan are the most efficient pick n' roll combo in the NBA.

They play a slow paced, half court game that covers up for their old age or lack of athleticism. They might look slow against younger teams in the regular season, but they are a team built for the playoff style basketball which is slower, and uses more ball movement.

They were equal 7th in the nba in pace last year, they don't look slow because they aren't. They stopped playing that slow half court game two years ago after Memphis beat them.

Pretty sure this is what people've been saying since 2010. If you're determined to hate the Spurs, fine, but you just keep arguing to yourself that the Spurs choke a lot. You don't choke and reach 7 games in the Finals against the best player of this generation. And the 'only advanced cuz of Westbrook's injury', surely that applies to ALL teams in the West then, no?

Lol!!! thats just it tho. I've picked the Spurs to win the title each of the past 3 seasons. They've choked each time. I'll believe it when I see it. They are DONE when Duncan retires. Pop knows it...which is why hes public stated that Duncans last yr will be his last yr coaching. and yes, The Spurs would have lost to OKC. OKC would've had home court, Spurs hadnt won there all yr

choked? now you're hating man. They have 4 titles, only 3 teams have more and you're calling them chokers. They've had 50 win records since I was probably like born and they will continue to dominate. So what if they only lost one game 7, Hakeem lost in the finals once, doesn't mean he's a choker

I think the Rockets can be better than the Spurs this year. But it is ludicrous to have anyone above the Spurs right now when the last meaningful NBA moment was the Heat clawing to comeback and beat the Spurs in 7. I don't see how the Spurs are worse than last year. Sure, someone could get hurt or they could simply be outplayed in the playoffs.

But as of this moment, I think you have to have the Spurs as the "team to beat in the West."

And I disagree with anyone who says the Spurs would have lost to OKC based on what happened in 2012. It never happened so we'll never know but that's just my personal opinion. In the 2012 series, Danny Green was awful. Leonard was barely coming on. Ginobili was actually really good IIRC. But I just felt that the Thunder got insanely hot in that series.

If Wade is healthy that series does not go 7 I promise you. Lucky BS shot by Parker to win gm 1 (he travelled btw). SMH.

and the Spurs "pack the paint and make them shoot jumpers" defense simply would not have worked against OKC. Durant wouldve destroyed them. I really hope we see the Spurs this yr. We would crush them now that we got D12

I know you are an OKC fan, but they didn't stand a chance against the Heat.

Because the Spurs are like cockroaches. You always assume cockroaches never go away no matter what you do.

Why is it so hard for you to give the Spurs props? Choke? They have 4 titles, how can you be a choker if you have 4 titles?

So what if they're done if Duncan retires? That applies to most NBA teams, not just the Spurs. Miami won't reach the playoffs if LBJ retires, LA won't reach the playoffs if Kobe retires etc.

The Spurs have been the model franchise for the last decade or so. THey have rings, the stars all chose to stay for less money, there's no drama, and they have been anchored by one of the most professional players to ever play. I wish the Rox create a dynasty like that with Howard, Harden and Parsons at the core.

Really??? Wow! Unfortunately, one reason is that Matt Bonner doesn't play well in critical times. He has improved a bit last year and saw his pt cut. This year would be interesting to see if he improves more and if Bane would cut into his pt more.

    Let them rot....

I'll be a happy man the moment Duncan, Pop and Tony walk away from the game or the team.
