Hmmm... I get the feeling someone tried to force something on you. Is that the case? Because I can't imagine there's a religion where the members force their faith on you.

Ah, so you're not spreading "word" now?

The world is full of hypocrisy, in every aspect.

    No I'm serious.

I think what confused you is that you think I said people of a faith rather than the faith itself. I agree that there are people who will shove things down your throat. But what I'm saying that there is no religion that "commands" it be shoved down your throat. Those people are acting on their own.

So I was wondering who did it to you and why you weren't able to be indifferent about it rather than direct your anger at the faith itself?

It's Islamic law for believers to have a public execution for those who commit apostasy. So if I was in a nation that practiced Islamic Law I would have to be executed.

It's folks like you max that I referred to in my earlier post.

You provide a positive counter example for those who allow the fringe to define their perception of the whole.

That simple? How come you're alive?

I'm assuming you werent living in an Islamic country. Anyways, I still don't think your hatred is justified. I don't know why atheists are always so angry with religious folks. Just ignore them.

I have absolutely nothing against religion, but does anyone else find the view that we wouldn't have morals with religion a bit sociopathic?

    Christians are still humans.

Some Christians have been told to welcome the opportunity to be around non-believers in order to open a different relationship with God.

But for your friend, I get the feeling that he doesn't want to be hurt, alienated, or "corrupted" in his inner circle. For people like him, Christianity is a blanket for the outer world. Just like a country club or some other association. I don't think that helps in terms of spirituality or introspection. It's just a means of feeling safe or protected. It also allows ideas of "us vs. them" or certain stereotypes to be spread and accepted.

    Well, how do you know?

From everything we know, people were much more barberic before more and more religions came into existence.

Other than your assumption, how do you know how people or the world would be if there was no religion ever created? There is no sample... There's no country like this...

I mean, for all we know, we would be eating each other and setting each other on fire. I'm sure you like to use yourself as the example, as many people do, but you were taught morals by people who derived their morals from religion.

Animals are really the only example you can use... But for every dog that will save a crying baby, there is a bear that will slash a 90 yr old woman's throat.

Certainly, Jesus was morally above anyone you know, right?

That's because the 1000 atheists had 1000 set of different parents and a different background. You really think every Christian has the same standard of morals?

    I believe in GOD!!!!!

Phew lets get that out the way.

I dont see where morals and values could have come from without there being a higher power that distinguished a general idea of right and wrong, good and bad which is only skewed by the views and selfish values of man.

I personally would like my president to believe in a higher power and derive his values and morals sincerely from that. Whether he was Muslim, Christian or Jewish.

If it was up to us murder may be a good thing. Why is stealing so wrong? WHy is helping another person such a good thing? Why give value to life? Why live if not for a reason? Why live to die? And if there is no reason just the biggest coincidence of luck due to a big bang. Thats harder to believe than to believe someone is behind it.

    Phew.

Oh did I say I believe in GOD

Exactly my point! Something must have decided morals.. or why would they exist?

Is there an example of someone who grew up with no guidance/influence? No, everyone has something. Whether it's parents, an orphanage, the streets, a mansion, brothers, relatives... Someone or something guides everyone.

I really don't think that anyone can prove that if religions didn't exist, our morals would be better, the same, or worse than they are now. There is simply no sample that can prove it, nor is anyone today free of the influence of religion, directly or indirectly.
