I haven't read much of this thread but have to say that it's sad people think they only have two choices. There is a God but not as explained in any organized religion, which has a floor (the beginning of any religious book) and ceiling (the end of the said book). Meanwhile, because non-theist see the inherent flaws of organized religion and in addition get annoyed when it is pushed on them, they assume and sometimes get confident and arrogant that there can't be a God. The fact is the true nature of God is being hidden by powerful figures in the background and that's just fine with me because after all, what would be the point of life if we knew all of the answers? But stuff like figuring out the meaning of the name for the popular soft drink 7-Up is proof that these ideas are being hidden right in our faces: Spoiler http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_143HxXcEx...M/jQ3KD8bs4WQ/s1600/chakra-poster-newest3.jpg Spoiler http://www.luekensliquors.com/images/7upLogo.jpg And now you know that the "seven up" is a reference of the chakra system from the bottom one to the top. Also, the root (sexual, red) chakra appears and is being appealed to you on the 7-Up logo. Like I said, these ideas appear right in plain sight.
I thought the seven chakras were Earth, which deals with Survival and is blocked by Fear. Water, which deals with Pleasure and is blocked by Guilt. Fire, which deals with Willpower and is blocked by Shame. Air, which deals with Love and is blocked by Grief. Sound, which deals with Truth and is blocked by the Lies people tell themselves. Light, which is responsible for Insight and is blocked by Illusions. Thought, which deals with Cosmic Energy and is blocked by Earthly Attachment. And that once the Avatar "opens" these chakras only then can he master the Avatar State.
Because your Christian belief is probably different from the next Christian in line, but you are right though , I have zero interest in hearing what your actual beliefs are after reading hundreds of different versions of the them --- more often than not, they cherry pick the Bible and come up with their own God to worship. You know why they make no difference to me? None can justify what they believe. But lets do this, once and for all. Tell me about your religious belief and JUSTIFY it. The thread title says why do I need to prove there is no God, therefore the discussion.
First off you dont choose to be an atheist, you were borned an atheist. Oh well everyone was. The rest of your post just dont make sense, Christian faith does not recognize any other God while Buddhism isnt opposed to other Gods/religious claims. You are either one of them or you are none of them --- studying the teachings of those books doesnt necessarily mean you become religious under those teachings. I read Bible too, for a different purpose but I do read them, doesnt make me a Xtian one bit.
I'm managing a retail shop at Auckland airport and we have a special card holder --- it's always the Americans that come to us for service, then give us one of their cards for their local church and tell us "it's good to know what's gonna happen", "God bless you" etc. All those cards go into the card holder sitting at the back cabinet.
This is the argument some theists always bring up, "we believe in science too!" No, there is nothing to believe in science. Science is simply a set of process to verify certain claims. It's not almighty, nor it's fault-proof, Scientists make mistakes on a daily basis and it's not a religion or anthing remotely close it, you don't believe in science, you rely on it for verification.
Dont know if people have had a chance to read a book by CS Lewis: Mere Christianity, but its a solid read. In the end people are going to believe or choose not too...As Christians, the message is often unclear to those that dont. Misinformation, hypocrisy, and false doctrine are just a start of what repulses nonbelievers from believers; so as a Christian, I believe im lacking in enough actions and deeds to show that the message of Christ is a simple one: Love God with all your heart and love those around you as you would love your self. The concept of Love that Christ teaches is very different than any other religion.
Ok, now my question is....who else has made the claim? Bible was written by scholars over the course of many years and thats where we get majority of our ideas about christianity, most people rely on the Bible to justify their beliefs. Now who's gonna justify the Bible? God himself? So let me make it clear, so God justifies Bible, then Bible justifies God. You are creating a win win situation, but sorry man, you can't go both ways. It's like I'm telling you what I said is true because my neighbour Joe can prove it, you know why Joe is credible? Because I said so. Btw, God himself is doing a terrific job on AIDS kids in africa.
That's like saying because I don't believe dream-stealing is real, I'm disqualified from debating whether or not Cobb's top falls at the end of Inception. Arguments should be evaluated based on their merits, not based on who's making them.
Thanks. I was pretty proud of that post myself. I said, "chakras? where have I heard about those recently? Oh, I know! Hehe!" And, well, the rest is history. ::EDIT:: Looks like Max deleted his actual reply. Not sure why. I appreciated the kind words.
I said everyone was borned an atheist. That is the default position for everyone regardless of their religious beliefs. It's got nothing to do with what I become later. It's entirely possible but like I said, it doesnt make sense. You can't believe in a God which is the deity in a mono-religion who does not recognize any other GOD( Thy shall not believe in any other God before me) and believe in a religion there is no God(Buddhism) or more than 1 God(Hinduism). Reading religious books and finding some of their contents useful does not make you religious, I said this just to comfort the poster I replied to --- I go to meadowland methodist church regularly, I also go to Fo Guang Shan which is a buddha temple every chinese new year...am I religious? No. Thats why I said, either you believe one of them, or neither.
I find that quite sad...because when you think about it, did they really follow Bible/God's guidance or they have been following their own conscience all along without knowing?
Im not an expert on such matters but i guess my take on why the opinion of LGBT is based off of this... The Church and its relationship with Christ has been defined as a union between a man and woman...Christ refers to the Church as his bride, and the Church looks to Christ as its bridegroom. The definition of a union is defined...I choose not to debate my thoughts on the concept of marriage with you bc your clearly moving off your own topic...
Stop it. You don't respect my opinion on this. Your words are super cheap. You can't belittle people here and tell them you have "zero interest" in what they believe......tell people what they believe, as if you know better than they do....and equate something they hold dear to them, personally, as a fairy tale...and then out of the other corner of your mouth try to convince me you respect my opinion. You're having an imaginary arguments with jackasses who call themselves Christians...none of whom I see represented in the last few pages of this thread. You respect the opinions of those who agree with you. And that's fine. I don't care that you don't respect my opinion on this. It's of absolutely no consequence to me in the slightest. I have never met you in my life, and I likely never will. We're all going to get along just fine. I argue for a living. I don't need to do it here over issues like this. Go Rockets.
