Basically he told Charlotte he would goto Duke rather than play for them.
He had not hired an agent so he could.

This forced a trade that sent Vlade Divac to Charlotte for Kobe Bryant

I commented already but I dont think Francis love is necessarily that much greater over McGrady. Francis his 1st game back in Houston when he was with the Magic, I dont think Francis got shown that much love from the fans. Fans can be fickle like that...

Anyways, alot of times it comes down to who you want to have beer with. Sometimes its about who you like over who's productive and talented. Brash vs Boring. There's just as much Dennis Rodman fans as there are Tim Duncan fans.

McGrady, Yao, Hakeem, Drexler, they were better for the team than everyone else. But fans probably would want to hang out with Sam Cassell, Vernon Maxwell, Mario Elie, Francis, Cuttino Mobley, Bobby Sura, Artest....moreso than Otis Thorpe, Juwan Howard, etc... Same with Rudy T & Van Gundy over Adelman.

People are mostly smart enough to know who's better than who and who needs to get shipped out when they suck. But it doesnt mean cuz they suck you have to hate them. Or cuz they're good you have to love them. Likeability is a TOTALLY subjective thing.

To McGrady's credit, Francis has shown the city a lot of love. But McGrady has shown heart to the people of Darfur. Thats as commendable as any civic pride.

So after reading all these posts, it sounds like the answer to the original question comes down to BODY LANGUAGE.

Wasn't willing to be 3rd in line? Hell he wasn't tenth in line, he couldn't break the rotation. Not once did you hear about him forcing a trade in the media, it's obvious he wanted one, but he didn't do like a lot of guys and make a scene about it.

Who is arguing about Tmac vs Garnett? Shoot I'll would take Duncan, Garnett, Shaq, Kobe, Lebron, etc over Tmac any day. All I said was Kg wasn't considered a winner in Minny and you jumped on me.

So I guess its a requirement to be friends with Yao to play on the rockets? What has Yao accomplished in his nba career to make Tracy jealous? If anything, yao should be grateful because if cat and steve were still here, he would be missing the playoffs in the west every yr.

Somehow we fans still think that players are as emotionally attached to the team as we are.

Steve was upset with the trade because he was going to a crappy team. He wasn't heartbroken because he had to leave Houston.

Do you think Steve would be heartbroken if he was dealt to the Spurs?

At the time of the Francis trade, Magic had its worst sesaon in its short history, 21 -61.

    LOL. Touche.

When you lost 61 games, you called that a team effort.

There are few athletes that frustrated me more wearing a Houston jersey than Steve Francis. You can say the right things over and over and over again...but words are cheap when you continue to make the same mistake every season...every game. His heart? Please. He was billed as a superstar..as the Franchise...he wore those labels and he never lived to them...and no I don't care about fan votes for All Star Games.

I'll take Tracy over Steve every day of the week and twice on Sunday.

So I take it Tracy's pull-up not quite threes don't bother you? How about his refusal to go to the basket?

    And McGrady has?

BUt yet Garnett got to the western conference finals once Cassell and Sprewell came to help. Tracy has Yao and Artest lets see what he does... so far Tracy is just looking pretty weak.

I'm not saying McGrady is Hakeem Olajuwon.

I'm saying I'd rather have him on my team than Steve Francis.

Antisonic is quite possibly the biggest T-Mac, no, overall hater on the board. Tracy is very much a better team player than Francis.

McGrady has had much better Rockets teammates than Francis had.

I'm curious why you're not interested in singling out any "Francis haters."
