HMMM... Because McGrady is a better playmaker as a 2-guard than Francis was as a point guard? Because Francis' career best games would only be average for McGrady? Because T-Mac can carry a team to the playoffs even when Yao is not playing? Because McGrady doesn't miss games to attend the Super Bowl? Because Tracy's coaches have only good things to say about him as a player? Because T-Mac has gotten the Rockets 3 50-win seasons, 3 trips to the playoffs, and 8 playoff wins in the 4 years he's been here (compared to 0 50-win seasons, 1 trip to the playoffs, and 1 playoff win in Francis' 5 years)? OH WAIT...
^ steve actually underachieved tinman. with his talents, he should still be a star right now and could have gone down as one of better guards in the history of the L (put up 19, 6, 6 with regularity in his prime). for whatever reason, he sucked when he got traded. his career is comparable to marbury (not that steve is a cancer like marbury) but how both came into the league with great potential, put up great stats for a few yrs, now still in their early 30s, and can't seem to get on the court.
steve overachieved. the whole offense was based on him and cuttino playing iso. rudy t hid his flaws that way. when jvg came, steve's flaws were exploited cause he wasn't option number 1.
2 scoring titles plenty of all-star appearances i hope you weren't point towards t-mac as being the biggest nba failure.
Scoring titles and All star appearances don't mean squat. Playoff wins, and championships are what make players winners. DD
Yah seriously, you gotta be like KG in order to be a winner. He wasn't a winner till he got traded to the Celtics.
Expectations. With the Steve/Cat/Cato/Yao team, we didn't expect them to do anything, yet they very nearly pulled off a massive upset against the all-star Lakers with Malone, Payton, Shaq and Kobe. with McGrady on the team however, we have had championship expectations ever since he walked in the door talking about how the sky was the limit now he had a big man. As the end result for both players has never been beyond a first round exit in the playoffs, we tend to hold Francis in higher regard as he led a team to achieve a much higher than expected level of achievement.
wrong. kg couldn't get out of the first round until someguy named cassell joined the team. that team made to the wcf but that cassell guy got hurt.
No one said anything about first round. KG just wasn't known as a winner in Minnesota till he joined the Celtics. Now you see commercials about how great he is over and over again.
i enjoyed Steve more, because it he cared more for the Rocket franchise. I just don't remember Steve offering as many excuses as Tmac. Also, Tmac has never embraced the city of Houston the way Steve has. Tmac feels rented, where we felt like we owned Steve.
Who cares if scoring title doesn't mean anything why should mvp? I mean Steve Nash won it twice back to back. KG didn't win no titles and exited the first round consistenly till like you said sam cassell showed up. Be a winner can also just be being in the right place at the right time. 1) You can ride the cocktails of another great star. 2) Be on a great team. Is Brain Scalabrini a winner because he has a ring?
As a rocket? I definitely enjoyed watching Francis more. When Francis was here he was my favorite player and Mcgrady was 2nd or maybe 3rd. Back then, Mcgrady was an exciting player to watch but in houston he's been pretty boring. I think it's pointless to argue either one is more of a "winner". Expectations are clearly a factor for most people, whether they admit it or not.
rather than saying Tmac a quitter in the playoff series, i would say that some of his team-mates either disappear or underachieved in the playoffs. I have big expectations on this current team coming playoff time
