Why didn't we just get Collison and then trade Brooks?

To the original posters point, I think in the NBA you devalue your assets when you acquire a surplus at a position. Look at Minnesota with their PGs - several decent PGs on that team but he's having a hard time getting appropriate value for them because teams KNOW he has to move one of them.

If Houston takes Posey and Collison, teams also KNOW Houston's roster is out of balance and would offer less to take players off their hands. Unless they could have moved Brooks in the deal at the same time, it just wouldn't have made good long term strategic sense.

Collisons offensive game is no where near what AB's is. His game is special while Collisons is just good.

Who knows, maybe Morey did try to swap Brooks for Collison? but Pacers already have a poor playmaking PG in Ford. The type of PG coach O'Brien would sit.

The Rockets swapped a swingman for another swingman. The difference was $10 milllion.

Brooks would be a better passer too if he played in a PG dominated system that is made for Chris Paul.

Everyone do yourself a favor and look what happened to Bibby's assist numbers before and after he joined Adelman.

Now do yourself a favor and see what happened to Brooks assist numbers pre and post all-star break. You know, when the starting lineup wasn't completely offensively r****ded.

The system, and the teamates matter. Next year Derrick Rose is going to "leap" into being a superstar. Why? Because he's going to play with Carlos Boozer and get tons of easy assists. Meanwhile Brooks willl always be considered a mediocre passer.

"Somebody created the box-score and he should be shot" - Daryl Morey

8 TO's a game is a nice bit of hyperbole, he averaged about half of that as a starter.

I don't think he'll be a "transcendent top 5 guy," but he certainly has the skillset to one day become a top 5 PG in the league. And I think when all is said and done, he will have had a better career by far than any other player involved in that trade. The Pacers got a steal in him.

Why do you'll want everyone on the team traded? This team is good.

I thought one of the good things about Morey is that he is ruthless, and won't hesitate to trade popular guys for the betterment of the team.

Ya, it was an exaggeration, but I think the point is still valid. As for his ceiling, I really don't see him as a top 5 PG in the league. I think he is probably going to be a better passing Aaron Brooks at best. I like Aaron's game, and he is certainly an NBA level starter, but there are a lot of PGs in the league who would probably be an upgrade to AB. I see a similar future to Collison. Do you really think Collison is going to be better in the near future than anyone in the existing young PG class - Rose, Evans, Wall, Rondo, D-Will, Chris Paul, Jennings, and Curry? I have a hard time imagining him being better than any of them let alone better than at least 4 of those 8.

....I'm well aware of the advantages of the trade and have been on record here many times pointing out the same thing. My point was specifically to address why the original poster's point doesn't make sense.

Agreed. I would give a nut to have Darren Collison over Kyle Lowry's fat contract and Aaron Brook's shooting guard brain...

Collison sprained his ankle and has been disappointing to my fantasy team so far.

He had zero assists against the Rockets.

Not a smart move at all!! You are talking about two guys at 6'0 that have a similar game....if we could swing a deal with the bobcats for stephen jackson then im all for it. The bobcats are in desperate need of a PG and possibly looking to unload wallace if not jackson.Either way everyone gets what they want.We get a tough versatile forward that plays defense and they get there starting PG (then they can eat whatever contract he signs)...IT IS WRITTEN

    Lowry
    Martin
    Jackson OR Wallace.....tough cookies!!

Because Indiana doesn't want to trade him,and possibly because the 76'ers may have asked too much in return. It's also possible that the Rockets felt that a Martin/Lee combination was good enough.

Collison isn't even playing near the level he was playing in New Orleans.
