I don't know if you noticed but the Celts are nothing but old vets. Why get Jeff Green now? To help you in the future? If their plan is to win now, Battier would have helped their perimeter defense and would have gelled with the other vets on the team.
THIS! Never believe the hype from Les. All the years he has owned the team he hasn't paid luxury tax. He is willing to pay all the way to the luxury tax line but never beyond that. He certainly wasn't going to pay for a team not making the playoffs.
Krstic will eat Semih Erden's old minutes, nearly 15/game. Jermaine O'Neal's out another 5-6 weeks, and Shaq's battled stamina/injury issues of his own.
I know nothing about Boston's bench. How unreasonable would Erden+Boston Rd1 pick for Battier have been? Does Erden have any potential to develop?
I didn't think this deserved its own thread, so I thought id just ask here: How much will we have to spend this offseason? We can still upgrade then, do we have enough to go after someone serious??
Very reasonable deal, but Erden's already reached his ceiling. He's known for his physicality around the basket, but he's severely lacking a go-to move on the low block. He's not very skilled, but will not shy away from contact. He's already racked up a handful of seasons in the Euroleague, and is nowhere near the prospect that Omer Asik is.
Huh? Patterson just signed his rookie deal. If the Rockets want to keep him then he's locked up until 2014 and then at that point he's a restricted FA. Perkins will be a FA at the end of the current season. If Boston was willing to move Perkins then I'm guessing that it's because they've found that Perkins is going to demand more money than they are willing to pay. OKC knows that Westbrook is in line for a big deal. They were going to have to make a tough decision as to if they could afford to pay Green or let him walk. There's has been plenty of speculation that OKC would end up letting Green go rather than paying him big money. If that's he case then they just traded an expirng contract of a guy that they weren't going to resign for a center who helps them greatly. They can take the rest of the season and see what type of impact Perkins has for them and then decide if they want to pay hiim his market value. If Boston likes what they see from Green then they can try and resign him after the season. Boston definitely needs an infusion of youth to keep from completely falling off the map as Garrnett and Allen get up in years. I'd love to get Perkins. I think that he'd be an ideal fit for the Rockets but from a Boston perspective Green and Kristic is a better package than Battier. Much of Battier's value is leadership and intangibles but Boston already has those things so Battier isn't as attractive to them.
I agree. If you're a stat junkie, Green has never had a PER above 14, (in four seasons). This year he's shooting .437 overall, and .307 from 3's. Like Trevor Ariza, he chucks about 4 3's a game even though he sucks from long range. His PER is 12.97. He's not known as a good defender or rebounder. I would have liked to had a chance to sign Perkins an RFA in the offseason, and give Battier a chance to win a championship. I think the Celtics will regret this trade in the playoffs. Garnett better stay healthy and Shaq better get healthy (and younger)...
