Why didn't we ever try McGrady at PG?

Uh... Have you seen McGrady's defense? You want six footers to run circles around him?

You know you're not stuck to guarding the position that you play...

He can't play defense against other SG and SF.

Want him to play defense against quicker players?

T-Mac, Artest, Battier, Scola and Yao

None of those players guard PGs well.

Well, if T-mac were moved up to Point Guard, I would guess that Artest would be moved down to provide explosiveness off the bench.

So, either Wafer or Brent Barry would be starting. :)

You don't play T-Mac at the point simply because it gives our best scorer more opportunities to get picks set for him, post his man up, or just plainly get open and do everything he does better than any other perimeter player on our team does.

A lot of those deficiencies could be hidden by a zone defense. These 6 footers would have to take a three point shot with any one of three 6'8" wingmen in their grill.

It wouldn't have helped one bit. T-Mac doesn't have the passion for the game anymore. It's just sad that the Rox couldn't void his contract and move on with building a team with players that are commited to winning.

    id like to add;

they also didnt want to waste his energy bringing up the ball...

thats what a PG is for...

and Tmac would have been taking even more long jumpers, instead of driving to the hoop... just because he would have had a height advantage, and also because he wouldnt be able to get by his man...

Becuase he is slow and fat. he will hold the ball ,standing at the left, untill he passed the ball or shot it with few seconds left and his teammates waiting and wondering what he is going to do?

Zones give up 3s. All it does for the offense to get the open 3 is move the ball.

Ironic, you picked two of our worst defenders, who can't guard their own position.

Whether or not T-Mac can play PG or point forward, the reason people want him to play the point is so we can have him on the court with Artest and Battier, so they can make up for his defensive woes. Also, none of them would have to play the 4.

    Yeah .

sometimes his passes are great.but most of the time , he holds the ball too much time and wasts lots of offense opportunities.

sometimes he can make great opportunities by himself ,when he is healthy.but most of the time, you can't figure on his body and you can't defeat a solid team like Spurs or Celtics with such simple streetball style.

Most importance is you don't wanna pay 20million for such a passer with the poor shooting percentage.

He was basically a "Point" last season. Especially when Yao went down.

He would get an 8 second violation everytime with his lazy fake jog/walks up the court.

This year or next year when my boy comes back he will basically be running point guard. Trust me we are going to see a new and improve T-Mac. T-Mac and Rafer Alston together wasn't a good back court because there basically looking to pass. McGrady was having the will to pass instead of attack. Now with Aaron Brooks in the picture McGrady can play the 2 position but basically run the offense.

Just because he is on the court as the point doesn't mean he has to guard other teams point guards. Battier or Artest can do that depending on the teams point guard. Yao Ming doesn't guard other teams centers if you understand where I'm coming from with this.
