Obviously injuries and also the fact that it probably killed him that he was essentially holding the Rockets hostage.

Straight up. I am really glad he didnt risk his life off the court by staying on the court.

If I had to guess, the last surgery robbed him of his faith to come back. He probably needed doctors & trainers in his ear for motivation to come back and the lockout didn't help.

More love from the Rockets by giving him a deal would have also helped, but it is understandable why they didn't.

The last surgery was supposed to stabilize his foot. I hope he would re-consider things after another year or two off. A 33-34 yr old Yao Ming would be good enough for me.

Yeah, watch your language. Yetti doesn't like it when we say words like s*** or f***. Or damn or darn or hell or heck.

I believe Yao will make one more comeback. It willbe probably next season or the one after. Sometime the best rehab is just long term rest.

Contractually, no. He became an unrestrict FA as of July 1, 2011. So, he's free to sign where he wants.

Realistically, though, I cannot see him choosing to go anywhere other than Houston in the unlikely event of a comeback.

Here's an interview, by the way, where Yao said:

I did still struggle a bit [with the decison to retire]. My legs, if you insist, you can play two or three years on them, the risk is re-injury. If I get injured again, there needs to be another operation. Haven't we seen enough the last 2 years? I know that the limit has been there, and there is no need to stubbornly pursue.

So, there is some possiblity of a comeback if Yao gets "the competition bug" again. My guess, though, is he'll get too busy pursuing his business, charitable and interests to let not playing in the NBA bother him. He'll probably get too fat to play, too.
