"Look for his shot" is one thing, and scoring is another. That's what I mean, when he plays for the system, passes the ball and in the end of the offense has scoring opportunities, we play good basketball, he scores with good %s, helps us a lot, and we usually win. When he forgets everything/everybody and starts playing alone, like yesterday, we usually lose.
Did you even watch the game yesterday? I mean, nobody else wanted to do anything. Martin was passing up shots, directing Brooks to go elsewhere. Scola had a solid game, but where else was Brooks to go? Nobody could hit anything. I have never seen this selfish version of Aaron Brooks play. He is actually very unselfish for a scoring point guard. That much is very evident from watching the Rockets play.
Would you have started the same thread had the last play used Brooks as a decoy with Martin taking and missing the last shot??
Book on this, the Martin trade wil, yes will prove to be a great move. Get ready for the excitement of the Lottery, then look forward to summer madness and next season. I really believe that after a summer of preparation, Martin will shine. He is very, very good at what he does; he just doesn't do everything. If the Rockets can ever get a consistent group of players on the court, good things will happen. It seems like for the last several years, the Rockets are like a pick up game. Not just different players each season, but different players during the season. That just won't work.
Why should I do that, others have named many others. He missed, it was a good look. I can't help it if people are upset that he missed, I wanted him to hit it too.... But que cera cera. DD
It was a good look and it's shot he makes every game (33 in a row). It just didn't go. The cards were stacked against us in that game, just wasn't meant to be but there will be other times. I love how one minutes the fans love him and the next they hate him. You could tell after he missed the shot he was frustrated. If he was running of the court skipping then you got a problem. He was clearly upset
I don't have a problem with Brooks shooting. I do have a problem with his lack of passing skills. Brooks isn't like T-Mac, a player who shoots a lot but knows when and how to pass. Brooks shoots because that's what he's best at, and what makes him a starter on this team. But sometimes it is frustrating to watch his game. As he's simply not gifted in any other area of the game besides scoring. The same can be said of Martin, but Martin's not a PG, and Martin's better than AB at the task of scoring. One of the reasons why I wouldn't mind seeing him go in a trade that lands us a top FA in the offseason.
Like Morey said, our best shot at a championship next year is to take our chances and bet on Yao, and trading for Martin is one of those gambles to find outside shooters for Yao's outlet passes. The bottom line is, we can't really judge the Martin trade until Yao comes back, and in next year's playoffs if Yao's still healthy by then, lol.
Yeep Parker is a scoring PG just like Brooks. That's why his assist numbers always hung around 5, even in those championship years. If he was a pass first or a pure point, he would have averaged 10+ assists.
I haven't seen this much whining about a trade since Tracy McGrady came here and everybody accused him of being too passive. I believe he had a sit-down with the coach shortly thereafter and got the message that it was OK to just do his thing, which he did, and the doubts and complaints quickly died down.
The ideal "past-first PG with unbelievable court vision" player that you're referring to here, Jose Calderon, happens to be playing behind a shoot-first PG, Jarrett Jack in Toront. Why is that? Plus, Calvin Murphy no likes what you just said.
I agree with what you said. I think long term for this team, if we really want to contend is if they get a pure point guard to start that gets everybody in their sets and let Yao get to work and let Aaron come off the bench Vennie Johnson style and he can shoot all he wants. But I'm not the first one to say this. I forgot the posters name, but the first few games when we made the Kyle Lowry trade last year, the poster said Lowry should be the starter, and I thought he was crazy at the time, but I guess he knew what he was talking about.
