Tmac wouldn't have made that Clipper team a winner. If you replace Sam Cassell with Tmac, that team would still suck. Leadership is more than how many times you can jack up shots. You do need more than ONE player to win, but you do need ONE player to be leader.

Well I don't consider it a failure, the whole TMac-Yao era had it's ups and downs, but this team stood up with best when not struck with injuries. It's a solid time in Rockets history, but it's time to move on, simple as that. I'd agree also with the most of the board, it's mostly due to health that this team didn't succeed in playoffs. Also a lot of fans forget quickly how McGrady actually HELPED this team numerous times WHEN healthy.
when you have to make hypothetical situations to justify this era, then it's a fail. They made Clutch City and Clutch City 2 videos. I don't find the "What If" dvd anywhere on sale.
I think there's an issue of Fantastic Four where Reed Richards gets trapped in an alternate universe where TMac got to the second round.
LOL @antisonic for even thinking the twacks know about the Marvel Universe! fool, they only know one superhero. Mr Glass!
Besides the injuries to our stars, if Juwon did not have that freak accident where MJ fell on his knees, we might have been able to finish off Dallas before it got to game 7. Also, if Rafer had played healthy throughout the Utah series we might have been able to beat them to...part of the game though...
Seems somewhat Ironic that the T-Mac Era is over, yet he's been in a Rockets uniform more recent than Yao has. Both Eras are/should be over.
This is how I'd answer. Because McGrady said "Its On Me", well then, its on you McGrady. You brought this thread upon yourself. So in that regard McGrady made his bed and he's lying in it. Though still, there were other variables in play. In no particular order: #) Luck #) *McGrady wasnt as dependable as we wanted #) *Yao wasn't as dependable as we wanted #) Acquistions weren't as dependable as we wanted. Bonzi Wells didnt work out. *Stromile didnt work out. Steve Francis didnt work out. Mike James didnt work out. All the old Knicks acquistions didnt work out. It'd be lazy to blame all that on McGrady because Bonzi, Francis, and Mike James fizzled on their own. None of them even played in the postseason with the team. Rafer and Battier were good or bad depending on how you look at it. Rafer was steady mediocre. Battier solid, but what about what we gave up for him? Artest worked. #) *Injuries. Injuries messed up the cohesiveness. Who knows if Stromile couldnt have done something in the playoffs if McGrady and Yao were healthy that year. Maybe you put Stromile on Boozer or Dirk instead of Ryan Bowen and get better results. #) Supporting cast.
Yeah I agree but this era can't be considered a failure for Rockets. Not in any way especially if you're talking about world recognition of the team and advertising. You may disagree but this team is overachiever ever since TMac and Yao put their names on the contracts that had Rockets logo on it.
10+ years and you get past the second round ONCE. How does that not scream failure. Fans don't give a damn about "recognition" if we aren't going deep into the playoffs or accomplishing something worthy. The revenue only matters to the owners, and most owners would like to win and profit. We don't deserve any recognition. The team hasn't done anything. The only recognition we get is the sob story from the media over how hard we play, and that has gotten beyond old. I'll understand some recognition if we actually did something, but we haven't. When you have 2 players like Yao and Mcgrady you should be thinking championships. I fail to say how we overachieved....when we achieved nothing on the court at all.
Injuries and the fact the team just wasn't good enough due to that. I love how people here blame Tracy, like it was all his fault. His numbers were always good in the playoffs. But Yao and him rarely played together in the most important times. Houston, where team concept happens.....unless we lose then blame Tracy.
