I am watching this guy and he's doing more than what is asked of him. He's tenacious on D and looks to score when there's an opening. I think with him on board we could have easily done something this post season. He plays with heart even when the Heat are down by 20 point lead, he seems to stay in it and try his best. Maybe at the trade deadline we offer the Heat Jordan Hill and bounce Hasheem Thabeet their direction. It's just astonishing.. Can you imagine how good our defense would be with Dampier at the 5 and Hayes at the 4 out there at the same time?
The Rockets didn't want Dampier because he's old, was out of shape at the time, and isn't all that great on defense. Chuck Hayes is a better option than him, honestly. As far as trading for him, there was no way at all the Heat were giving him up...
Have you been watching some of the Heat games? He's would help immediately. Too old? Hell, find an obtainable big man that can do what he'd doing right at this moment that was within grasp? We had this guy for $1 - $2 million a season and the return he's giving Miami is extraordinary. They don't even play Big Z anymore when the game is on the line or if the game had meaning. He's not too old and cold have been a rental for a post season run and would have been something that would have been formidable for Laker's bigs.
We have probably one of the worst GM's in the league if you take the past 7 months into a account. Morey laid too many eggs this past season it's not even questionable. If we signed Damp to Miller's contract he would take it right away over the summer. Our GM is just not adequate in the brain department.
Inadequate in the brain department? You mean mentally r****ded? That's a new one - our GM is a r****d.
The Rockets were interested in him. In fact, they actually signed him... but then they decided that they didn't want to let go of Jermaine Taylor to clear a spot for Dampier. Why? Because he was old, slow, and out of shape.
For what Damp does, with the way our team is constructed, I'd rather have him than even Bosh. The Heat lost 20 point leads and this guy keeps them within 4 -5 points, scoring when Wade, Lebron, or Bosh are cold. With the lack of legit bigs in this league it's astounding that people think about anything else out their not within reach. The bigger question there's probably nothing else out there even comparable to what Damp can offer on the cheap. Nothing.. Find a big that performs like that being paid what he does. I'm sure when Noah was injured, Chicago would have licked their chops to have Damp there as an interim. Boston would have taken Damp's services if they could over the O'neals. There's not much more to be said other than maybe Morey is to blame for the most part. I don't buy the not healthy Yao because Damp wanted the playing time anyways.
As a matter of fact, the Heat passed on Dampier for the same reasons the Rockets did. But then Udonis Haslem went down with that big injury, and the Heat pretty much had to go after Dampier.
Dampier is a scrub. He is only averaging 15mpg this season and if it were any more he would be moving ALOT slower.
Fail. We DID apparently agree to terms with Dampier http://www.nba.com/2010/news/10/29/dampier.rockets/index.html However he reneged on the deal in order to go ride coat tails - probably thought that he was guaranteed a championship in Miami? I hope it irritates him that he's on a worse team than the Mavericks team that he was moved away from!! In the end, Dampier would make some difference here, we'd win 5-6 more games on the season with him in the lineup, but he's not a difference maker on his own! Just a taller guy to man the middle.
