Im not convinced that we could have Yao and TMac 110% on the court with Ariza at the same time that he would be a better player. A lot of those 3's he missed tonight, he was open. He was open for a reason. When he slashes to the basket, its out of control because he can't catch and finish, can't handle the ball, and he can't use his left hand. He is a project at best. IDK what RA's facination with him is to give him a bright green light.
You love this team but won't subscribe to NBA LP bc it isn't in HD? Something is just not right about this statement. Ariza dropped a 30 spot against the Thunder. The guy is at least worth the contract he received. Get over it. Wait until he has a star or 2 around him. Heck, I say wait until Mcgrady is back to his usual self. He's slowly but surely coming around. Then you can really assess if he is a bad fit or not.
He's not so much a bad fit as much as he's trying to do too much. I agree there needs to be a dominant star on the team and Ariza needs better shot selection. People around here just need SOMETHING to b**** about. Most of them have an agenda; be it someones McGrady man-crush or the need to hear themself talk/seem themself post. Few know what they are talking about.
I think you guys are expecting way too much from Ariza. How much is he getting paid again? The MLE. That is supporting cast pay, so I don't see how we are expecting all-star level contribution. Low risk, high reward situation in my book. We're giving him an opportunity to be a star, but if it doesn't work out, he'll still be a fine sidekick for Yao, and even Tracy if he comes around.
don't hate on basso, he's been a Rockets fan before Watergate or the Bay of Pigs. if he chooses to make an appearance on the GARM, that means he really does care about the Rockets. being a Rockets fan in another city is harder than being one in Htown.
Not really. I was in Waco for several years while I attended Baylor. It's called NBA League Pass. I gladly made 4 payments of around $40 every year
basso lives in NYC you know it's kinda hard getting directv in manhattan. so exactly where is going to put that dish?
Why can't we get Tmac in there when trevor is playing like a piece of ****... watching him struggle on offence is now seriously pissing me off
At this point I think Von Wafer would have put up better numbers if he could play as much minutes and shoot as much as Ariza. I remember last year each time we played the Lakers people would debate who of Wafer and Ariza was the best super-sub. I can't believe our #1 option is the Lakers 4th. Oh well, we still have Landry to break the rims...
They don't have digital cable out there ? What year are we in? Also, there is LP Broadband. My brother and cousin live out in LA. They just hook up their labtop to their TV bc they dont have cable or sat.
the point is he did see the game, even though his living situation makes it more difficult to watch the Rockets.
that's the point of LPBB. it's for fans who don't live in their fav team's city. unless you're financially strapped, it's a must if you're a rocket fan as it's a great investment.
Von wafer used to be a better scorer than trevor, but he was also not as good as trevor on defensive end.this team needs a balance between offense and defense.that is why shane, chuck and trevor live. and that could explain why our coach always keep trevor on the court during tough time .yes man, he was bad at shooting ,horrible at dribbling ,not good at finishing.but only one advantage make him so special in this team.his defensive ability, his sense for stealing. so guys his salary is a poor MLE,we can't ask him too much,IF this guy could do everything we could not get him for such a low cost.
Thats exactly it! This teams needs balance, so why put two players who are supposed to be great defensively and suck offensively in the starting lineup? Besides Brooks and Scola, we have absolutely no offensive threat when they all play together. I know Adelman said that Ariza was here for a starter position, but at this point i'd rather have him benched, because his defense is questionnable and certainly not in the top tier of the league. Brining in an offensive minded SG such as Wafer or Budinger (even though he will be very inconsistent since he's a rook) would be a true balance between offense(wafer, bud) and defense (battier, hayes). The thing is, Ariza is starting to think he is a mini-Kobe after what the organisation has told him and what the fans (presumably) have been telling him to boost his confidence. But he is a bollow average shooter (certainly no jason kapono), he doesn't take it to the rack because he has no dribble. Basically he has no offensive skills. At this point a spot up 3pt shooter such as Kapono would probably even be a better fit for this lineup. Hopefully, after this season, pressure will be taken off his shoulders and he can go back to being a 3rd-4th option for this organization. However i'm afraid that Adelman's promises to make him a starter could be jeopardized.
that's right, ariza hurts us like Artest ued to the difference is that Artest is so strong and can penetrate and put the lay up Ariza sucks he just cannot handle the ball
I live in freaking Auckland, NZ and I watch every Rockets game, so tell it to somebody else. Anyway, it's not about his lack of watching, it's starting a thread about Ariza after viewing one game. It would be like saying "McGrady is back!" after the Clippers game. It's stupid.
i didn't mean to imply i hadn't seen any games, just i hadn't been watching enough- i download (and share) the highlight packages R2K puts up, and catch other updates online. unfortunately, my life just doesn't lend itself to long stretches in front of the TV/laptop watching sports- i get about an hour in the evenings, and usually my wife wants to watch House or Medium. but you don't have to be Allison Dubois to realize Ariza doesn't fit as the team is currently put together- it's painfully obvious from watching just a few minutes of play. i'm not disputing the wisdom of bringing him in for the MLE- DA/RA expected a different team, and he might be a valuable piece once Yao is back (along with whoever T-Mac's spot becomes). Tin- thanks man, i have been following the rockets since the early '70s, and while i was around for the bay of pigs (please allow me to introduce myself...), the rockets weren't.
If only that were true. I often defended Rafer Alston despite his horrific shooting because at least one could see the elements he brought to the offense despite not being able to shoot well. Ariza brings ... nothing. Can't dribble, can't create, has no post game, can't shoot, can't see the floor, can't direct traffic, doesn't know what to do with the ball when it comes to him. He can't even be a cog in the offense anymore, he just bogs it down. You watch Battier when he gets the ball. Sometimes it's like his bad decisions only exist to erase Battier's good ones, like a yin and yang thing going on. It's sad -- I can't even identify one thing he does better than Battier at this point other than slashing. Well OK, maybe he does bring something. His numerous bricks give our bigs more chances for offensive rebounds. Yay, the system works.
So you are comparing Rafer with Ariza. They both compete, but Ariza is way more talented on defense and in transition. Offensively (halfcourt) Ariza (in his 20s) doesn't know himself yet and needs a little time to explore the limits of his game. Rafer (in his 30s) knew himself and was still jacking shots off the dribble and tear droping us to death.
