It seems like the standard of funny is limited to doing stand up but there are plenty of women who are very funny doing things besides stand up. I've never seen Amy Poehler do stand up but her character skits are hilarious. I like Sarah Silverman but I think her songs and skits are much better than her stand up.
Lot of sand you're eating there, buddy. There's tons of female actors and comedians that have great timing. Personally, I find many of the women listed in this thread absolutely hilarious. Do I prefer women comedians over men? Honestly no, because men are able to get away with a wider variety of material. I prefer the cerebral humor of people like Bill Maher, Bill Hicks, Jon Stewart, the political and religious stuff, and less about race, dick jokes, etc. (even though if done right, x-rated humor can have me rolling on the floor). You don't have many women out there who can get away with serious/funny "searing-indictment"-type humor, unless they're making fun of other women (Sarah Palin is an easy target). I think that things will change in the future... But I digress - I typically find that men dominate stand-up talent-wise.
I thought the op was about females, in general. Women seem less funny...or maybe they just don't try as hard to be funny. Of course, of the women who choose comedy as a profession, there are some funny people. That ain't Sarah Silverman...she's awful. She's one of the least funny female comics i've ever heard.
This has been a recurring theme in my life. Whenever I meet a girl that self-proclaims herself as being funny, she just ends up being annoying and somewhat obnoxious. On another note, I know a lot of humor I'm exposed to comes in the form of stories. I've only met a few girls in my life that were able to tell a good story (by getting the comedic timing down, leaving out unimportant facts, not laughing themselves during their own story, delivering a solid punchline, etc). Telling a good story is a learned skill, and I'm guessing the reason women aren't usually good at it is because they aren't the ones that normally have to entertain. It's more typical for a guy to entertain a group of people, or entertain a single girl if they are in a one-on-one situation, rather than the other way around.

To me she is the most annoying female 'comic' out there right now. I totally switch the channel anytime she's on.
I can see that since her comedy isn't for everyone. She does have a pretty quick wit though. Robin Williams like in fact. She would be absolutely perfect as a talk show host.
