I give this thread a thumbs up! I don't think we're talking 20 post-ups a game, here, but a few would be smart.
This is a great thread. He's a weapon thats not being fully utilized down in the block. I think by the latter part of the season Scola will see alot of looks in the post, he's very crafty down there. RA is still in a feeling out process.
Somtimes i do not understand why they have go through these motion screens in order to post up Yao because when they bring the ball up, Yao is already there to receive the ball and yet they choose not to pass it to him because they're "REQUIRED" to go thru a set of motion screening to free up Yao. Whatever..that's just dumb because the first time they bring the ball up Yao is already post up and open and they can just pass it to him. So i don't know why they're making things difficult when it isn't!
Also, I don't think he will live up to his true nickname, Scolajuwon, until he can get some touches down low.
It's kind of hard to post up when you have guards like Reefer and James running the point, the only thing they're capable of is passing gas! BTW, anybody else is pissed off at James lately? The guy without his shots is completely useless on the court, I'd rather see his minutes go to Franchise or Brooks, so I don't have to throw things at my TV when he bricks another shot or refuses to pass to the open guy.
I have been wanting the same thing, the guy is nails around the basket, tons of moves. And last night Tmac, Bonzi, Rafer, and Mike James all refused to pass it in to him when he had post position. They just need to trust him more. DD
keep in mind that scola is just getting the deer in the headlights look out of his system and i imagine he'll still have some nights in that phase. i definitely see him as a fantastic scoring post option at some point, but as others have mentioned the veteran's aren't even comfortable in this system yet, and when you're not comfortable you go to what you know, which isn't let's give scola the ball in the post.
Thank you. Also remember Scola is just now starting to show some consistency. He had a few games earlier where people here were jumping on his case. If Scola continues to develop he will get more scoring opportunities, by design and in the flow of the motion offense. We have 69 games left. What I like the most about Scola in the post is he never EVER goes backwards. At a minimum he will move sideways or around his defender. One game he even got called twice for charging because he refused to give one inch to the defender. I applauded both times. It's almost like he's programmed against it. That aggressive, attacking attitude is something we need more of.
The recent play where Scola was fighting around the hoop, was fouled numerous times without a call (natch), grabbed about 3 boards in the process, and finally was floored with a flagrant had me on my feet yelling at the tube. I'm really getting to love this guy. You're right... there's no backup in him. He has a real passion for the game and is just a great dude in general. Pumped up on the sidelines and pumped up when he's in. Sure, he's still on that learning curve, but you can see him "getting it," game by game.
He is actually much better than I imagined. I didn't think he was going to even contribute for the first 30 games but he has looked very good at times. At other times he has looked like a rookie but he has not for one second looked like he isn't going to be a very good NBA player....and sooner than I expected. I don't think it is too conservative for him to average 14/8 after the All Star break. If Chuck can still give us his 4/6 (along with his underrated defense) we are suddenly looking pretty good at PF. What I like best about Scola is that once he adjusts to the NBA game we now have TWO mobile guys to match up against duos like Boozer/Okur. No more being forced to leave Yao on an island against quicker bigs.
Of course everyone is still trying to learn this motion offense, but it's ridiculous that he only took 2 shots against the Clippers (at least one of them was from a offensive rebound and put back). There's no reason why we can't run a couple of plays for him. He's not Hayes, and he's not Battier. He can give us a lot more than just intangibles and net possessions. If Yao/T-Mac is doubled and Scola's near the basket, then he better be getting the ball. He is arguably the best finisher on the team near the paint, maybe even better than Yao.
Pisses me off to see him only get 2 shots the entire game. He is a high percentage shooter, UNLIKE THE GUARDS THAT ARE IGNORING HIM.
Socla should get more plays in the low post. Also, Bonzi should get more in the low post as well. Bonzi usually creates matchup problems for the other team and this would cause him to shoot less of those jumpers.
That is what I like to see as well. Scola and Bonzi need to post up more and the coach needs to run plays for these two players. I hate it when Bonzi takes the outside shoot which is not his strong point. Scola and Bonzi are not being utilize to the max in their offense.
Because Shane and MJ make 7 mils, Rafer makes 5 mils. They are supposed to give us serious side-kick. There is no reason to give the dxmx ball to a cheap labour like Scola to steal the spotlight.
